Sounds high but I am not sure. I pay about $700.00 CAD for a major service including the normal items plus labour (this does include valve adjustment). If I added in brakes for all four corners that should add about another 1K so about $1700 CAD total. I have to say you might have been taken for around $600.00 unless you forgot to mention something.

Just bought mine 3 weeks ago..had in for tune up including adjust valves, lube & oil, Transaxle drain and fill, bleed and flush brakes, new rotors (not cross drilled) and pads and sensors all 4 wheels and remove front drivers seat to replace 2 power seat switches that were bad found on PPI. Labor $1050 and parts $1169.66 plus $24 miscellaneous stuff not including sales tax in Maine.. Not sure of hourly rate ? $75-80/hr range maybe. Done at a private Porsche garage not Porsche dealership. Hope this gives you at least one recent point of reference. Did they quote you something less when you brought it in and say they found more things to do? Mine was about $150 more than expected due to two switches replaced not one as expected per PPI.

Joey,

Most of what you had done can be accomplished by any porsche owner with a little knowledge and a good set of tools. I would recommend the book "101 Projects for Your Porsche 911" by Wayne R. Dempsey. DIY is a great way to save money and learn a lot about the workings of a great automobile.

Here is a link to Wane's book.

I would not call it a rip off...maybe 15 hours would be more likely but it's just a guess...forget about it and enjoy your well maintained car!!!

I wouldn't call the overall price a rip-off at all. The wheel bearings are a major PIA, especially the rear. The brake caliper rebuilds take some time. Could you have done some of thatt work and saved some? Sure. But, this was, you got a thorough professional "going over" of your vehicle, which could be worth a lot more if something was amiss that the untrained eye wouldn't pick up. Now you have a baseline and fresh calipers and wheel bearings and valve adjustment...keeping it up for a year or two should be cake.

I agree with the peace of mind having someone give it an objective opinion and look over that gives you a good starting point. Now if this snow would just start to melt

Hey, at least you didn't buy a "low mileage" 911 engine from GAD, only to find out later that it actually had over twice the mileage that was claimed.

their is no price too high if the work was done right. Lets say the guy did the work for 1/2 the price and the car burnt up 3 months later... what would cost more? you own a porsche now, get used to getting out your wallet! just my $.02

$2600 for a major service and brakes and caliper rebuild sounds about right, If it makes you feel any better, the labor rate is good, Where I'm at with BMW it is $130 an hour, and most Socal independants (that are good) are around $100. Vision Motorsports is around there, and they are a top of the line race, repair, fabrication shop.

Go enjoy your car, it shouldn't need any work for awhile.

Moral of this story, get an estimate before work starts. I know I've learned this lesson!

If you are just talking the front wheel bearings than you were not treated kindly. The labor for just a front wheel bearing is taken up with removing the calipers so you can get to the inside seal. If you had the brakes done then the bearings had to come off anyway.

Key point "was the work done properly and are you happy with the improvement" cheap work can ruin your day.
