Default Whats the value of a running 73 half 911??

I am considering an RS replica project based on a 73 half 911. The car I am looking at is running with the first 2.4 CIS motor. Good interior with rust in places. Please consider that I am a welder so the rust is a veru easy fix for me and I have 2 prsches currently. I am going to sell my 74 911 targa with the chrome Targa bar, headlight rings, gaskets ETC. It is black on black also with minor rust issues and could use a paint job. I am really interetsed in the RS project but want to avoid investing as much as it would be worth.
Thanks
Nathan

It is challenging to make a RS clone in which you have "... avoid(ed) investing as much as it would be worth." Performing your own labor does help defray the cost. How complete & accurate a clone do you want? exterior appearance? interior? motor? susp & brakes? OEM components only? track use (& therefore current saftey stds)?

I investigated this w/ my '73 T coupe as a donor. At the very least, I estimated $15K (+ car) before it would be nearly finished. Doubling one's going-in estimate makes for a sensible range. For me, I decided the ala carte approach wasn't viable. I'll wait for a desirable must-sell-now example to present itself, then maybe.

Well, given the picture to the side here, I'd say a 73.5 CIS 911 is PRICELESS!

Of course that doesn't help your aspirations for a RS clone.

looking at yours in oak park, It may be a good idea to restore it. would it be right to say a nice 73.5 911 cis coupe would be worth more than my 74 targa could ever be. It seems that the 73.5 is fairly hard to come by??

a running '73T coupe w/ minimal rust & a "good interior" is a good buy - VERY good @ $5K.
any good long nose, lwb 911 is becoming increasingly hard to come by / in-demand. fewer nice examples being chased by more buyers, + the "R-Gruppe" phenomenon. see Bruce Anderson's column in the current Excellence.

I think a truely preserved car's relative value (considering total $s in & $s out) will be better than a restored / RS converted example, as time unfolds. however, a really well executed RS clone will be a blast to drive & worth the money spent. Pick your addiction & execute.

btw, the 73T CIS Coupe was the most plentiful type produced: 1,944 units. 2nd was the T Coupe w/ MFI: 1,875. switched over in Jan. of '73. Rarest? - T Targa MFI w/ Sportomatic: 781. A future nugget would be a very original one w/ dealer-installed (fact) AC & "S" options.

"Performing your own labor does help defray the cost."

Very true -- it will only cost you about $40,000 instead of $55,000....

Seriously - the engine parts you'll need are NOT cheap. Then there's the suspension work, etc. etc. You'll paint it too...

But 5k is a huge deal if cond. is as described above. If you can find a few like that you could flip them on eBay and make enough to pay for the parts you need...

Personally, if you want ot work on the car... and if you can do the body work, that is a HUGE savings.... I'd restore it back to origional condition.... the value if these cars is going up and an origional car will generally move with the market...

RS clone is a cool car, but there are alot of them out there, and always a few for sale... my guess is it would be cheaper to buy a well-done car that is already done...

just an opinion from the cheap seats...
