Default Transmission Fluid Capacity

I'm thinking of replacing the tranny oil in my 1989 Carrera's G-50.

When looking into the Bentley 911 Carrera Service Manual to find out how much tranny fluid would go in there, page 340-3 says:
1. Without oil cooler.... 3.0 liter
2. With oil cooler ........3.1 liter.

I'm trying to think of what the oil cooler has to do with transmission fluid... Can anybody tell me?
Thanks.

Cheers, Randy. So I'll guess I just go for the 3.0 liter (without oil cooler).

Exactly. Some ROW 915's came with an integrated transaxle oil cooler.

I just did 2 (964's) in the past 2 months and they took just under 4 QTs of synthetic each. 911 2 is correct, the fill plug is the level, when it comes out (car must be level of course) its full, plug it up..

And that's with the car level. If it's sitting nose-down it won't take as much oil. I put the car up on 4 jackstands (or on a lift) to do this job.

"go for the 3.0 liter"

- if there is a cooler, you'll see it

- just put in fluid until it comes out the hole as noted above; get a cheap pump at an auto parts place & have at it.
