If you remove the air pump, you should plug the openings where the air injectors were located.

I had a 76 912E years ago and when I removed the smog and air injection line, there were 4 inch tubes left in the heads. I found steel caps to put on the upper threads to seal the tubes. Worked very well. I don't know if you have the similar tubes, but either way, you'll need a bolt looking plug with the same threads to go in the heads or a cap with threads for each tube. I think it much easier if the tubes are there and capping them. Less likelihood of cross threading the hole.

You have two options:

1) 1/8 Brass pipe plugs. Thread is close, but you'll only get them in tow threaqds or so and they WILL fall out. Ask me how i know. You can either wire them in--PITA and more work--or

2) Order the proper plugs from Parts Heaven for about $US20-25.00 These plugs are nice peices, made for the job with allen heads and copper washers. The way to go IMO.

I suggest you save the smog pump and plumbing if it works. I'm thinking most ppl. toss them, and they might be worth summat to the concours crowd some day?

Unless the sight of the pump bothers you...just leave it and remove the belt.

As one who can't live w/ non-functioning weight in the back half of a 911, I'd extract it.

My pump was removed before I bought it but I have the piping under the car. It all comes together and someone just cut it and bent it over. If I am reading correctly I can remove these right at the engine and plug them to get rid of that unsightly pipe ? . IS it a compression fitting with a collar ? THis sounds like an easy mod to clean things up if I am not missing anything . Opinions ?

Yes you can.

No, it is a special plug with a shoulder and a recessed Allen socket for installation.

Will definitely do this one after I get the plugs, any special tools required to get the pipes out ?
