Hey guys
I just bought a 1971 T Targa thats been sitting in a barn for too long of a time.
Here are a few pictures :
After Some Cleaning :
My question is Do I part it or try to sell it. It has quite a few parts that I can use to finish my 73!
It looks like it has some rust however it doesnt appear to be a basketcase. No dents etc paint is ok just old and the interior is trashed!
I would hate to part it out but im not sure if I can get anything for it complete.
The Good:
Webers
Original Engine
Fuchs
Great Crome and Badges etc It even has the original fuse panel covers!!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Supposedly it only has 35,000 miles on it!
An advise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Jon

First, depends on the rust situation... looks good from the pics... but if there is structural rust, you are probably SOL.
Second, does it run? If it runs ok, you are in great shape. If not, the rest of the car has to be pretty good... but a motor rebuild is not necessarily a head-shot.
Assuming the above, the car looks straight and clean with decent interior. Clean up the paint and see what you have. I wouldn't sweat a bit of wear... a car with decent origional paint is likely to be worth as much or more that a repaint....
You may have a "survivor" car here in which case you hit the jackpot. With prices of these cars going up strongly, my guess is it is worth alot more intact than parted out.

Wow, that car appears to be 100% intact, no parts missing, just the wear from age. Somehow I don't think parting it is the best thing for the car. The chrome appears to have a great shine and the paint appears great too. With those two facts, how can the rust problem be fatal? 35,000 miles? If you can somehow document that I'd say parting it would be a REALLY bad idea.
That last pic - is that after just a wash or did you try to bring the paint back to life in other ways? If it's just a wash it looks amazing.

Have the rust professionally evaluated. If it's a 5-speed and not rusty let me know. Do not try to start the car until the gas tank has been cared for. The interior indicates at least 135K miles. The car probably has either 135K or 235K miles on it, the odo only goes to 99,999.

Actually the interior was in perfect shape however the mice and Rats had a little bit of fun with every part of material except the Dash !!!
35,000 miles apprear to be correct- 95% sure.
I've ordered a Carb Rebuild kit and will attempt to get it running. At that point I will re-evaluate the situation.
Thanks for all the great advice, as always appreciated!
