Default 1986 Interior Light Delay Location

Need help fixing the interior lights on my 1986 Carrera - I'm looking for the location of the light delay. A few months ago I noticed my interior lights stayed on 100% of the time, previously they turned on when the door opened then turned off 15 seconds after closing the door. I think its a problem with the light delay, though I'm not sure if this was installed by the factory or PO.

Does anyone know the likely location of the light delay. It controls the lights after the doors are opened.

Thanks,
-John Duncan

John--
Don't think the factory made a light delay in 1986 (that's why Porsches of that vintage have lighted key heads.) I'm thinking it was probably a PO installation, though I could be wrong. Just guessing, but a likely location would be behind the left knee pad.

I thought those delay circuits were designed to simply plug directly onto one of the light contacts and therefore would likley be stuffed up inside the headliner next to the light.

Performance Products sells a delay circuit as an aftermarket add-on. It keeps the lights on for several seconds after you closed the door. I used to have one in my previous car, but now barely remember it (I certainly don't remember paying as much as they're currently asking for it).

I think it was wired into the car right up by one of the two interior lights. If you pull out the little assembly, you might see it.

I wouldn't want it unless the lights go out as soon as the key is turned to the "on" position. My 928's relay has this feature.

Also, if they're on all the time, if could mean that the switch has been moved to the always-on position. The lens itself is a rocker-type switch, and it has three positions.

Good point Jack. I'd also suggest that the wiring inside the door switch might be shorted to ground, although this is usually the opposite of most interior lighting problems.
