I have been offered a '83 coupe by the original owner with 39,000 miles......decent options and absolutely mint; however
The car has been 100% repainted by a Porsche shop ( taken apart) and
The seats were removed and rebuilt&recovered in new german leather
This is part of a trade....he wants to value at $20,000
I had a '81 and '84 bought new....drove 75,000 miles each and no problems.....but I've been away from this type 911 for 20 years....my local dealer will pay $16,000 for the '83......they have seen it etc
Oh chain tensioner etc have been done
Is this a $20,000 Porsche??????????
Many thanks

I don't want the '83....this gentleman is buying my '02 Cab, but needs to sell his Porsche......the repaint was not for damage.....he just wanted it to look new.
I am looking for another Turbo, '87 to '89 and or '91, '92 or '94.....
For years I drove a '85 930 that I bought new in London....with Ruf mods.....I imported it and it was my daily driver....a gentleman in NC still has it but will not sell it back

PO could have a shinyness fetish - you never know.
- you need it checked over carefully for body damage tho! try to contact the painter and talk to them re why it was painted.
prob. worth it IF in xlnt. mech. cond.

The local Porsche dealer already looked into the paint issue....the seats were originally in cloth......he had them rebuilt and covered in leather, german .....by Porsche shop across country
If anyone has an interest in this Porsche, send a PM....he wants $20,000 .....he contacted me thru PCA....he is an older German gentleman and most pleasant....with great credentials

sounds like he was a stickler for doing everything perfect -- if you are willing to pay for that & many are, then this is your car...
I sold a similar car, 1 '75 a few years ago -- the guy before me was the one who put all the $$ into it. he spent over $50k... then sold it to me for $16.5k, I drove it about 5 years and sold it for $18k. If I'd sold during the dot com mania I could have gotten a much higher price.
I sold it partly b/c I wanted a project car and there was really nothing to do on that car. So, if you want to fix up a car, this doesn't sound like the one...

My $.02... if you want the 83 to keep and really love the car, $20K is not outlandish if all the work was to done origional factory quality.
IF you are just flipping the car, howver, my guess is you will either be sitting on it a long time to find another $20K buyer, or will lose a few $k in the deal... An '02 cab should not be that hard to sell straight-up without committing to some exotic trade...
That said, if you are getting $4K more in this deal, you may want to gamble that you can sell the 83 for over $16K and be ahead.... that works, but I'd say youd be awful lucky to get $20K for it quickly if at all

the buyer of the '02 Cab. has to sell his Porsche to buy my wife's Porsche.....We have agreed on $61,500 with a $1500.00 shipping allowanceThe deal is he can't afford more than $60,000 ( he says)...he has $40,000
I am simply trying to help a German citizen sell his Porsche ....he has a lot of pride plus he is likely shrewd as hell
I don't want to spec or own a '83.....been there
Berk.... my uneducated guess is that, if the car is as nice as you say, you can sell it pretty quickly for $15-16K.... so if $56K for your car works for you, anything you get over that is gravy... I'd get a thorough PPI, though... for that money the car should be mechanically flawless...
As far as helping a nice German man... that is admirable... but money is money too... good luck

Having a low mileage one owner car myself, (SC ~26k miles) , I would be very concerned with the repaint and seat recovering. . . . . Was the car garaged? How complete are the records?
If it sat outside in FL all these years I could understand it needing both. I lived down there for three years in the 80s with no garage. The garage had been conveted to a room. The paint on both my cars was shot when I left
