Post Air Guide

I am doing a rebuild and when putting the cooling fan back on I noticed in one of my books that there is an air guide mentioned that I don't have. It's the one that attaches to the back of the fan housing not the big orange one. Is this on all years? I have a '78 and I don't remember seeing this when I tore the engine down.

There should be a guide that attaches with the same bolts which secure the alternator to the fan housing. It makes access to the alternator wires inconvenient, so someone may have left it off.

Tom,

Do you know if it is necessary to have it? I'm just wondering whether or not I need to order one.

Thanks for the help.

The nozzle appears to be important for smoothing and channeling air evenly over the cylinders and oil cooler. I wouldn't think of assembling an engine without it.

The airguide has metal fins on it to help direct the airflow. You can't buy the part new from Porsche anymore (unless they've started making them again) so you'll need to call Parts Heaven, dc Automotive, or other used parts business.
