I have a 2.7 that is leaking oil real bad. It has 137000 miles on it ,so I figured if I had to pull it down to go ahead and have it rebuilt. I looked into Motor Meister. After reading all of the negative postings on this board I changed my mind.
Does anyone have any suggustions on a good rebuilder? I live on the east coast (Alabama) but I'm willing to ship it out west if needed.

I don't have a lead (unless you want one in CT), however, as I recall, there are some people that do good work in the Atlanta area, as well as in Tenn., Virginia, and West Virginia. You shouldn't need to ship it out West, although of course you can, and there are many good rebuilders there. You might also post your question on the Rennlist 911 email list to get additional input. Ask for references from people who have had work done. If all else fails and for some reason you don't get any leads, talk to Andial or Jerry Woods in CA. They'll charge alot, but the work will be high quality and done very well.

Hi Rick - depending on what you want done (i.e. a straight rebuild or a performance build) I can recommend Imagine Auto out of Kansas. They did a 3.4 Twin Plug rebuild of my 930 motor for me and the result is amazing.

first good call on motor schiester, stay far away from them.
Just my two cents; have you considered installing a used 3.6, I rebuilt my 3.0 and wish I would have just found a nice 964 or 993 motor to transplant, rebuilding sounds cheaper in the beginning but once you get into it, you find out your not saving much. Again, just my view, good luck

As long as you're considering east coast, my mechanic is very well respected here in Washington area and his name is Russell Kessler. Runs his own shop out of his house and services a wide variety of 911s of all ages and tunes. Does great work at a fair price.

Can you dismantle the engine yourself? If so, send all the parts that need work to Ted Robinson at German Precision in Sunnyvale, CA. He'll do good reasonably priced machine work and then you can put the whole thing back together. 408-747-0728. But why not find a 3.0L rebuildable core motor if you plan to keep the car, and rebuild that? That's what Ted will tell you also, and I think it is good advice. I arrived at that conclusion after absorbing mucho dinero costs to make the 2.7L good. Anyway, Ted will ease the pain by humoring you with jokes you've yet to hear at no extra charge!!

Rick,
How about Gordon Friedman at Autometrics in Charleston,SC ? www.autometricsmotorsports.com
It's a little closer than the west cost, and Gordon builds great motors.
Good luck!

In the process of finding a rebuilder for this engine, some people made the suggestion to forget about the 2.7 and invest that money into a 3.0, 3.2,or even a 3.6 low mileage salvaged motor. I have been researching both options, to rebuild a tired 2.7 that has not had any upgrades except for a pop off valve in the air box. It still has the old style head bolts, the old style chain tensioners.
To up grade these and any other items and to rebuild this engine I will still just be left with a 2.7 with no performance upgrades at a cost of any where from $5000. to $9000. I should be able to pick up a 3.0 for around $4500. Or a 3.4 for around $5000. If I do decided to replace this motor with a larger one will every thing still connect together, i.e.915 tranny and clutch. Both of which was just recently rebuilt. Will the motor mounts line up.
Thanks again for all of the input.
