I found a 1983 911SC with 110,000 and all service records, getting PPI done at dealership pretty soon, he's asking $12,000...very good condition all over...I think it is but would like the "Rennlist Attaboy"
Thanks!

Here's more info:
Coupe
Timing belt @70k
Clutch @85k
roters/calipers/bearings @90k
Air box/pop off valve @90k
Full service tune up @ 101k
What should I be looking for that could bite me, I've read the Used 911 Story and am getting the PPI from a Porsche dealership...

Kevin,
You may want to read the 911SC FAQ on tech.rennlist.com, if you haven't already. One item I don't see on the list is oil-fed tensioners.

Timing belt? Either you mean a new cam chain (which is unlikely) or the alternator belt, which is a $9 piece and can be changed in about 10 minutes, so don't put too much stock in that.
Just as reference, I just bought (in June) a 1981 911SC coupe w/o sunroof for $11,500. It had a top-end 30K ago, new clutch, and records since day one. It'd be nice if yours had some engine work recently, as that tends to become an issue around 100K. I think, in this market, that you could get the price down a little more, unless the car is in really excellent shape.

Steve sounds like he got a very goood deal for $11,500. Just made an offer on one with 70K miles for $12,500. Interior, exterior, mechanical were in excellent shape. Maybe I should have gone lower. Time will tell... waiting to hear. Spoke with a broker before I made my offer and he said I'd be stealing it at $11,500 so I went a little higher.

$1000? I wonder what was really changed? It shouldn't cost that much even to replace the cam chain, unless there was a lot of other work they did while they were in there. I would clarify this with the seller - I'm curious myself.

As in oil-fed tensioners?? Maybe this is what was done under timing belt??
Note: These cars are...
(1) at least twenty years old...
(2) high performance autos...
(3) of course it's a crap shoot...
(4) so don't bet the farm.
Cheers,
Chris

Price sounds about average for a very good SC. But I'm with the others, what is this $1000 timing belt work? Get some shop receipts and report back!

WOW! Thats an awesome buy! That owner of that car would probably be asking %15,000 for that car near Philadelphia.
