Default Bursch Exhaust

Have a 86 Carrera, and was wondering if anyone out ther has switched their stock exhaust to the Bursch, single in and single out?

Is the swap out worth it for better sound & hp, and is it an easy and compatable upgrade. Any issues with the install, and is it hidden from exterior view.

TIA,
Ron

Hi Derick,

Nice Cab. What sort of issues did you have with the install? Any pics from your installation?

TIA,
Ron

Ron,
Install was on an 87 I had about 5-6 years ago. I guess there was an issue in that the cat flange bolts were pretty severely rusted. I had to cut them to get it off. Not a huge job, but more than a wrench and a can of WD-40. Expect to replace those bolts.

It was worth it though as the sound is awesome and the price is right.

I did the Bursch on my 83SC.
IT was a easy swap, no fit problems, it does stick out some but not bad.
I followed a post off Pelicanparts from Waren Hall on removing
the paint that comes on the Bursch and repainting it with high
temp VHT paint. THis worked out very well. the muffler held up
very well for years and looked great.
Good Luck
Chuck

I have put one on my 81SC. With the exception of the severly rusted cat bolts, it was a simple install. The only problem I had was having to fab a hanger for the left side of the muffler. The tip on mine is chrome, and it looks pretty nice. The sound is quite a bit louder than stock. It has a deffinate growl. It's not so loud that I worry about waking the neighbors up at night though. I'd be suprised if it added any HP, but the sound makes it worth it.

I think the sound is absolutely awesome, quiet enough to get around town with a nice burble that turns into a perfect growl/yowl at high RPM's full throttle. I did get black-flagged at Road Atlanta during "church hours" of 10 to 12 on Sunday morning at full throttle uphill in turn 1...

Saw/heard a SC at the track a couple of weeks ago with one. The sound was great, really just right, as others said, not too loud but a good deep throaty sound. The one I saw stuck out a little below the rear of the car.

I bought my '84 and it had the Bursch exhaust already installed on it and it sounds awesome. I can try and get a file with the sound on it but it might not be until this weekend. PM me if you want to get the big download. I think my sony can do it.

Exhaust sound is all so subjective. That said, I put the Bursch on my '81 SC when I put SSIs on it. I wanted a Monty but didn't want to spend the money. To me, the Bursch sounds great. Very throaty, sets off other car alarms, and friends know when I about to arrive. But it really does sound great.

Ron, If the Bursch 1 in 1 out from a 1982 911SC will fit your car, I will make you a good deal on the one that came of my car. It was on there about 6 weeks. It sounded good but was louder than stock and did not sound as much like a Porsche muffler, IMHO. I replaced the Bursch with SSI's and a Dansk 2 in 1 out. This set up sounds like what i think a 911 should sound like. It must be old age but the only loud motor that sounds good to me is an american made V8.
