Which Monty do you guys recommend for an 1983 911SC? I am upgrading to SSIs and don't mind a very little more sound. Thanks.

Hi Rick:
We use and sell the dual-in/dual-out version when using SSI's. These are made in 4 versions:
1) single 3" outlet (quietest)
2) Dual 3" outlets (a little louder)
4) Single 4" outlet (just bigger & louder)
5) Dual 4" outlets (loudest)
I find no discernable difference in power between them. Its a matter of cosmetics and sound level.
These will outlast you,....

<strong>Steve,
Thanks for being such a great resource. One more question. Is the 3" single out louder than stock?

Hi Rick:
Happy to be of assistance for you.
Yessir, the 3" single is louder than stock. All of the Monty Mufflers are in the category of Sport Mufflers and will make more noise than the OEM ones. Its just a question of degree,.....

while we're talkin about mufflers, I have a question if you guys dont mind me buttin in. I have headers on my SC so I need a dual-in but Im looking for a muffler that has two outlets in the center a la' Boxster S. I was wondering if Steve or anyone else knew if one existed, I will be replacing the rear bumper on my car and so the cutouts wont be a problem. Thanks,

Rick,
I recently installed a Monty 3in single out with my new SSIs and find that it is quieter than I thought it would be.
At idle, it makes a nice low moan, but has a bit of resonance that can be bothersome for long periods.
As RPMs increase, it actually seems to get quieter with a metallic sound... very 911.
My previous muffler was a modified stock unit that the PO gutted and fitted a turbo style twin pipe outlet that was louder, but had a more raspy sound. I got used to it and it had no resonance at any RPM. It got louder as RPMs increased. I couldn't hear the engine, only the exhaust.
If you like the sound of your engine, stick with one of the single outs. I don't know how loud the dual outs get, but if I had it to do over, I'd take a little more noise...
I'm with Steve though. They will outlast everything else and are works of art.
