Exclamation Swepco vs Redline Transmission oil

Quick question for those who have played around with different oil type.

I recently decided to replace the oil in my G50 transmission and since I had a few quarts Red Line 90W Shockproof (opaque blue stuff) Gearbox oil from my formular racing days, I decided to use it. The transmission shift the same but seems to be noisier... Anyone experienced something similar - is Swepco the only appropriate oil... THX

I found the best lubricant for my G50 is Mobil 1 75W90 synthetic. It took the noise away and shifts sooo much better.

Don't use Swepco in a G50. Use a good synthetic. In the 915 transaxles, Swepco is the winner.

Mobil 1 in the G50, swepco in the 915. Cant go wrong

Redline seems to be good from the stories I hear, but I have no personal experiance with it.

We know the G50 transmission is different than the 915, using Borg-Warner synchronizers, instead of the Porsche-designed 915 synchronizers. The Borg-Warner system responds well to the slipperier synthetic transmission fluid, and many use Mobil 1. Swepco, OTOH, works well in the 915 transmission and is not the best fluid of choice in the G50.

Redline is good stuff... you just had the wrong weight !
I use Royal Purple in my G-50. Who does your service in Austin ?
My car was built by Scotts AutoHaus in Georgetown Tx
He put the Royal Purple in, he also uses Mobil 1 in G-50's
He is one of the best in the area. I use Redline 20/50
oil in my 89 911. If Redline is your choice try 75W90NS
Good Luck !

I have the Redline 75W90NS in my 1987 911 transmission G-50 for about five years now. shifting is smooth. you have to use the right oil from Redline or any other company. it's the material of the gears inside the transmission that dictates the type of lubricant. i believe the gears are coated with a bronze type material or something similar. the Redline oil also has has a shock additive. if you neeed more information email Redline.com. the Tech that will answer your oil Questions ownes and drives a Porsche 911.

Guys:
Thanks for the information - should have gone to Redline's website before putting the stuff in the gearbox since the Shockproof oil is not made for syncro boxes... oh well live and learn - it's for the track car anyway the tranny is coming out this summer for different gearing!

Chuck: My 993 usually goes to the stealers for the basic maintenance, so far haven't needed more than oil changes and minor tune... Will kee Scotts in mind if I run into any problems.
