Post Anyone in Michigan want a MAF Kit on the cheap?

I was just speaking to Jim at Pro-M Racing in Oak Park, Michigan. They build the mass air flow units for Autothority (which I am told are recognized as the best available for our P-Cars). They sell the MAF unit and hardware for $400 and the custom tuner (plugs into your PC) for $300 (as opposed to the $1200 to $2000 charged by companies that re-sell their units). You can buy the kit from them and program it for your car, but if there is someone in the Oak Park area that is willing to let them use their car for tuning they will create a customized off the shelf program for the 911. I have no affiliation with this company - this just seems like a chance for P-car owners to get a quality upgrade without the 200% P-car markup. Private message me if you are interested.

Bill,

I am not in Michigan, but would sure love to buy an Autothority-like set-up from these guys. I scoured their website looking for Pcar info but came up empty. It sounds like a matter of getting a 911 to these guys so they could put together a complete kit. This may be worth posting on the Pelican Parts BBS as I know there are a bunch of Michiganders over there...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8

Hopefully this will work out.

Hey Mike - that is basically it. They need a test mule. You can buy the MAF from them but then you also need to buy the tuner to dial it in for your car. Many people probably want to do this anyway, but I am sure they would sell alot if they had a pre-tuned MAF setup in the $500 range.

Bill, I'm trying to look up the phone number of Pro-M racing and so far information can't give me a number. I live in Michigan and want to check this guy out.

I think the 964s and earlier benefit the most from a MAF as the the 993 really improved that system. I think he could use a car from the SC, 911, and 964 breeds.

Lets keep this thread alive...there are many who would jump on a set-up like this for a reasonable price.

The Porsche tax is goin' down!!!

Another thought...couldn't they just copy the Autothority chip? I suppose that could be considered unethical (kind of like charging $2k for a $400 rig).

I actually think that the chip and the MAF are different things. The MAF will do its job without the chip. The chip is just an add on that Autothority puts in the package (and I assume it is tuned to aco**** for the MAF).

Guys,
I have the Pro-M MAF installed on my '86 Carrera. The kit comes with MAF, filter, and adapter box. The adapter box allows you to adjust the setup (probably injector duty cycle) at idle and under load. The kit cost me $690. It does not come with a chip, and does not require one. I also run an Autothority chip on my car. You will need to do a little custom work to wire in the MAF, and support the filter. It's all pretty simple, and adequate instructions are included. I would recommend the unit. Pro-M delivered the promised product in a timely manner, and it has performed well. It's not plug-and-play, but the customer work required is pretty straightforward. It does yield a performance gain, about 7 hp. You should really get the unit dialed in properly at a dyno, or facility with a precision air-fule ratio meter. E-mail me privately if you'd like to know more.

Regards.

Brian - I sent you an e-mail. On the plug and play issue, that is why Pro-M would like a test car - then they could develop a kit that just plugs right in. If I do not see more than 12 HP the kit will go back.

That does sound like a great route to go, vs. a huge markup from resellers!
