Post New (old) wheels

I got a pretty cool set of boxes today from the UPS guy. 8x10x17 custom-fabbed wheels with real Fuchs centers, done in the old style. I'll be tracking them on Friday (and then every day of next week, on a different track each day) with 235's in the front and 275's in the rear.

The 10x17 ones are 18 pounds each, by my scale. Let's hope they're almost as strong as the real thing.

Those are awesome Jack. It looks like a lot of work went into those. Just beautiful. I like your rugs and your dog too.

Jack the wheels are awesooooooom, where these the 7s that you where searching for?
What do you think to convert a 7X16 to a 9X16 would cost?

It will be interesting to see what their durability is. Usually there are a lot of technical issues with fusion welding two dissimilar metals (assuming that the rims are aluminum).

Did you measure for runout yet?

Wow, They look great but I will share Paul's concern over the strength. GTAW(tig) or GMAW(mig) welding aluminium brings the heat treatment back to T0. This has the affect of making the aluminium very soft by annealing it. Has the supplier re-heat treated them? This is not a component that you want to have someone "Playing Engineer" with, especially with the size tires you plan on using. I'm not trying to be a pessimist but it's an issue of safety.

Cheers, James

Great looking wheels! If for any reason they don't work out, you probably already know that HRE has a Fuchs look-alike.
