I have my '87 911 w/ LWest and havent ever received anything regarding down-grading my agreed value. Fortunately I've made no claims - They take my $$ and I drive.....
My gripe w/ them as well as all other "collector" insurers is the lack of coverage for on-track (DE) events. Although another co. does offer an on-track insurance rider (adds to existig policies) it isnt available in my state. I thank the NJ Ins. & Banking Commission for that. I've wrttent to them in an attempt to educate them as to the DE objectives and the need for this type of coverage by responsible drivers - thier reply was that it "could" give the impression of being a regular policy when it is only for on-track. What a bunch of BS.....the on-track policy would only be provided to drivers AFTER they provide proof of regualr coverage. PIAs

Sorry, I didn't catch the link this morning. I've have my '88 Carrera with them for 3 years at $25K agreed value, and they've never said a word about that. The car is really clean though - 76K miles, one previous owner, and I provided a PCA evaluation when I took the policy. Premium is $448/yr with 5K miles allowed. The only thing they make me do is document the mileage once a year, which is not a problem.

I tried to get with them. They have this goofy old car rule that if you own a daily driver car that is 10 years or older, they will not cover you, so I went with Haggerty

I've insured a number of cars with them over many years. No complaints - they are courteous, prompt and helpful - always!

For an 88 Carrera, using the 5K mile limit, collision and liabilitiy, good driving record, over 40 yrs old dirver, using the online system, we were being quoted approx. $800/yr. I saw that Dave Thomas was at $450/yr with a comparable car. Why such a big difference?

Might have something to do with where you live. Greater chance of theft, greater chance of natural disaster, higher repair costs? I'm in a rural area about 35 miles outside of St. Louis, don't know about your location. However I'm also in Madison County, IL, which is infamous for outrageous jury awards in liability cases and that tends to keep our rates higher.
You might call them to get an accurate quote. They're great to deal with over the phone.
