How do I remove glove box lock?
I need to remove my glove box lock on my 1970 911T. It was frozen and a locksmith was able to get it opened, but did not have time to remove the lock to fix it. I want to just take the lock into him without having to remove the door. The door position does not leave a lot of room to get a screw driver in there to take the door off. If anyone has done this before let me know how you did it!
Thanks, Julia
Thanks, Julia

Julia,
If I remember correctly, all you need is a wrench to remove the nut on the back side of the latch. If you feel at the base of the latch mechanism you should feel the flats of the nut. A small adjustable should be able to loosen it enough to remove it with your fingers.
Cheers, Rich

Didn't work! There isn't a nut that I can see. Just a black plastic mechanism on the back side. There is a silver metal center with a whole. I tried an allen wrench, but it doesn't go anywhere. There are grooves in the metal ring. I think there must be a tool that fits in it and you twist it out. There is also a magnet that holds it closed (loosely I might ad), so it will stay shut, I just can't lock it. Not a big deal, but I would like it to work.

Hi Julia,
I have a 1973 and it should be the same. In the picture the top (when closed) is facing you. You can see the nut that holds the lock in place and there is a line pointing to it. You need to unscrew that nut to remove it from the glove box lid. Once you have the lock mechanism out, there is a very small roll pin that holds the tumber in the latch.
Here's a shot of it in my glove box:

Hi Harry,
Does you lock have a black plastic cover? Mine is black. Maybe it's covered and if I pull it off, it will look like yours???
Thanks for the help and picture.

I stole this from e-bay, but you can kinda see the outside part here as the dark spot above the "S":

My lock has a metal cylinder and the "wedge" you see is black plastic. Maybe non-stock.
