Best 5.25 car speakers and subwoofer combo under $500
Im going to need new coaxial speakers and sub under seat. I ordered these door panels with no grille for speakers to keep it minimal so i want flat speakers/non-peaking tweeters.
I believe the door accepts inly 5.25” speakers (i don’t wanna drill or what not) but please let me know if i mistake
If so then I see Kickers, JBL, Focal in my search results and they seem good price.
I don’t wanna spend more than 500 for both sub and pair of speakers and i don’t wanna add amplifiers etc. I wanna keep it simple. Im not an audiophile.
My radio is a Retrosound Grand Prix m2b with bluetooth which is good enough for my need
My car is a 912 82 SC and I just wanna get the best for the buck if you can help

The door cut out accepts up to 6.5” speakers.
The challenge with using the existing 5.25” plastic mounting shrouds is that they only allow for a (very) shallow speaker, which is hard to find.
You can install a 6.5” speaker very easily — you may need to drill a couple of new holes for the self tappers — but you are *not* cutting anything up at all.
I recently completed my door card refresh and installed 6.5” Infinity Reference REF-6532ex (via Crutchfield) - and some foam pads inside the doors behind them to improve sound quality.
- You can see (just) the original screw holes vs the ones I had to drill, since the mounting tabs didn’t align.
- I used some #4 black zinc coated self tappers and nylon washers
- They sit very flush and fit underneath my door cards, which have perforated speaker grills in the leather as yours do, OP.
From my ‘79 SC:
Bonus door card install photo:
For reference: the little 5.25” Kickers I bought at first are too deep for the factory adapters and too small for the cut-out in the door. Fabbing a bracket without a jigsaw or good cutting tools is more work than just drilling additional holes in the door.

fantastic! thanks for sharing the photo that is exactly what I need to understand!!
btw to clarify: I currently have 6.5 Pioneer speakers installed by the previous owner, but they seem those deep speakers that needed to be installed "outside" the panel...
Your solution is great, so I guess I will go for 6.5 then!
(my doors are identical to yours )

Burning Brakes
I just finished my 72 doors and I 2nd or 3rd the dynamat. I used the 5.25" Focal Coaxial, They are pricey but sound fantastic.
Driving the focal and sub is the JL Audio VX600/6i amp. My sub is in a custom built box that sits on the passenger rear floor.

btw what is the 911sc door speakers' max depth? I see your Infinity speaker is shallow, but what if I want JBL or Focal and they are 2-1/16" or so? will they fit?

their website reads those Focal PS-165-FE Flax Evo are not compatible but i've seen 911SC using them.. so their website is not reliable to start with...
