Rear ClubSport shelf instead of seats for 911
Hey there,
I am looking at lightening my 911 and have some questions on the rear seats.
I remember seeing that the ClubSport did not have rear seats and used a lightweight shelf with some cubbies for storage.
Have any of you replaced your rear seats with the CS shelf?
Where can you get one (black I assume), how much do they cost, and do you really save weight over the rear seats?
Can you guys point me to any info on the web or other posts on a similar set up?
Thanks.

Race Car
I've seen both, and my initial impression was that the shelf probably weighed more than the seats. Has anyone weighed both?
Most people just remove the seats and carpet over the area.

This is great info. Thanks for the photos.
I'll look into the options with 3R racing here in Denver with other weight saving ideas.
Carpet looks like a fine solution especially if you're going with a roll cage. So, I wonder about the carpet, is it available, special supply, or do you have to fab it yourself?
Great R Jack!

Try www.appbiz.com
They have all sorts of kits (door panels, carpet kits, etc). Good quality and great service (I got my RSA door panels from them, 1st class). Try buying their stuff via their eBay auctions, it is cheaper there, then from their website.
Perhaps this it the set you want???

Also Pelican Parts sell carpet kits, but I'm not sure of the styles.

Robb,
I looked at your body of work on your website. Nice stuff!
I use to be in the industry here in Denver, but left it last fall.
Have you ever turned your camera on the track?

It would be great to have a shelf. A light wt. one could be made out of aluminum hexcell material. It is used in aricraft construction and can probably be gotten from a Boeing junkyard for cheap. You'd have to fab it and cover it with carpet or a foam pad. I've thought about doing this, but it seems prudent to put the engine in the car first....

OneNineElevenGuy,
Thanks for your comments. I haven't hit the track with the cameras yet, but am always up for shooting 911's and F-cars in a scenic setting.
Unimog,
Thanks for the link. I'll look into the options. Do they or others sell custom color leather RS door panels?
Good driving out there.

They do sell the whole panel 'kit', which has the die-cut panels, handles, tabs, etc, uncovered so you can add you own covering.

Actually the ROW Club Sports had the shelf as an option (M 419) and they were installed in the English cars as well. I have a couple for sale that were taken out of Carrera Cup USA cars and are virtually the same as the CS that I own. while these are simple I do not think they would be easy to duplicate. See my site if you are interested http://www.Porsport.com

Don
