Default Will value of car take a hit?

I have an original 1975 Carrera Targa, good shape.

I have toying with the idea of putting on PMO carbs and eventually changing the cams to something more aggressive then the SC cams that are in it now. By removing the CSI and going carbs do you think the value of the car would take a hit?

Thoughts?

is it still a 2.7 ? or when you say SC cams in it the car is now a 3.0 litre.

personally i don't think PMO carbs will make it suffer in value, especially if you keep all your original components, but what you may do is reduce your pool of buyers. Not for any tangible reason other than people want original cars, i did and i wouldnt look at ones that weren't, its not like i offered them less because it wasn't original, i just didn't want it .

make sense ?

Keep the original components and you should be fine. I don't personally find carbs to be a value add but CIS is not exactly the peak either.

It might be considered an asset :-) Just keep the original parts. FWIW, CIS in good tune is good, it just doesn't make power / respond to mods. carbs are better for that, and less voodoo magic to keep them in tune.

I had a 2.7 in my car previously with SSI headers/muffler and weber 40 carbs and it was great.

Is is a 2.7 but when it was rebuilt, Dougherty SC cams were installed. From my understanding they are about the max change with CIS that can be made.

Spyrex, Ha your thread is one of those that has been pushing me to think about this! I already have SSI headers/sport muffler, coming from other older carbed cars, the CIS just seems to be holding the car back. My understanding CIS was in response to meet emissions....

yes a real Carrera will take a big hit, the car is too valuable these days to modify from original

Drive train wise it is. The Carrera back then has the slightly wider rear hips, what became the standard for the SC. It also had the Whale tail, front air dam, blackened out trim, wider rims/tires, larger sways.

Yes. Early Carrera's began the "look" of the later SC cars of the 80's

yeah that's nice, and rare to see... I think it's really up to you, the conversion is reversible. You may or may not like it better :-)
