Default Gearbox Oil

Has anyone here tried the Royal Purple tranny fluid on their 915 tranny car? I know some of the BMW guys, particularly ones that have installed short shift kits on their cars, swear by this stufff. From what I've read, Swepco seems to be the fluid of choice here. Just curious...

For the 915, Swepco is the only choice, AFAIK...

Grant is right on the money. Swepco is the best for the 915 and also great in the 901 trans.

The only problem that I have found with Swepco, and NOT in my 911, but my Eagle Talon TSI, and probably not applicable to those that don't drive their 911 in very cold weather, is that it must "warm up" before shifting without nursing and grinding is possible.
regards,
Steve

I know I am in the minority, but I've had very good luck with the Mobil 1 80/90 in my 915.

I've used Mobil 1 80/90 in my 901 for 5 years with no problems.

915 = Swepco because it has Porsche type synchronizers - as do the 901 and 911 (and some older racing trannys) -- apparently they need a surface property of the fluid like cohesion (I hesitate to use the term viscosity) that allows the fluid to adhere and climb up into the synchros or so I read in some post or book somewhere....

G50 = Mobil 1 or Redline because it has Borg-Warner type synchronizers

Has any one run Swepco in their G50? Is it that much worse then the Mobil 1 or Redline that I should not use it? What is the difference between the three fluids in trems of wear on the trany and over all trany performance? I have plans to change my fluid this weekend and use Swepco. It is an 87 911 Carrera with 60k miles, dedicated track ues only. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
Does anybody know where can I buy the Swepco oil here in central Europe? Any shop in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia or the Czech Republic. I could not find any reseller here.
Thx.

Just dumped a load of Syn Mobil 1 75-90 into my 88's G-50 gearbox and it does shift slightly smoother. I had just changed it 6000 miles ago and was surprized a see an 1/4" fuzz ball of metal on the magnetic drain plug. Should have taken a pic of that but my hands were a bit dirty and I got flak for messing up the dig cam last time.

I swear by the Motul Gear Oil These days.

I was using swepco. Had problems with the trans getting stuck in gears when it got hot. Switched to Motul, Problems solved. Very strange. Most of the guys that race with us have been using the Motul. That is How I came to try it.
