This is my 1,000th post on Rennlist, and it feels particularly well timed, as I took delivery yesterday evening of my 1982 911SC. I know this is a technical forum, and the reason for my post is because without the help of the Rennlist community, I wouldn't enjoy 911 ownership nearly as much. I truly enjoy taking care of the machines I own and don't shy away from projects, even when I know they're over my skill level...which they typically all start out being. I continue to be amazed at the joy I take in swapping worn dampeners, upgrading a part, or simply a meditative and methodical oil-change, followed by a relaxed early morning drive. Many people don't see the attraction, but I know this community does and I appreciate all of the collective wisdom. Thinking of Steve Wiener and his family today, he helped me more than once and I'm grateful.
I sold my 964 a few years ago and while I've enjoyed other cars, I just couldn't replace the enjoyment of the older 911. I was actually looking for an SC when I bought my 964, so this is a full circle moment for me. The moment it came off the truck, I took a 100 mile shake-down drive and damn, I almost teared up at the sound of the motor at ~5,500 and the cold air rushing through the cabin. Every thing I noticed wrong, is an opportunity to bring this car closer to my version of the perfect driver. So, needless to say, I'll be leaning on my new friends in the 911 forum, and thus wanted to say hello. The project list is....long.
Kind regards all,
Tim
My 964, which went to a fellow Rennlister. Gone, but definitely not forgotten:
That car looks familiar , did you get it from a rennlister ?
Hey theiceman - not from a Rennlister that I'm aware of. The car was listed on pcarmarket and sold to a dealer. I bought it from a dealer in Palm Beach. Car spent all of it's life, prior to the recent sale, in AZ. I liked this as I've bought older cars from the southwest before and the bodies seem well preserved. Is the car you're thinking of from AZ?

not sure thought i had just seen it , very nice example , enjoy in good health.
Great post and good luck! I bought my first aircooled 86 911 back in October and love every drive in it. My Cayman, as nice as it is, just feels boring in comparison.
After some deliberation, I decided to remove the A/C from my 911SC. I had A/C on my 964 and never used it in the 10 years I owned the car. Being in Michigan means A/C is non-essential in an older 911, for sure.
Definitely one of the most satisfying projects I've done on any car. Getting rid of all the complexity, the cumbersome condensers, pipes, compressor was cathartic. Cleaning out the 40 years of AZ dirt from the front left fender was nice too.
I do plan to keep the blower up front for heat, and will likely be going with a SSI / M&K set-up for exhaust. Even though I'd like to just go with headers, having heat in the early morning adds quite a bit to my driving enjoyment and I'm able to keep driving well into late autumn, more comfortably. Any advice from anyone out there that kept their heat/ deleted A/C is appreciated. I poured over threads on it, so I think I have it under control...but one never knows.
Keeping all this fun stuff in a bin...just in case someone wants to add 60lbs weight and complexity for the pleasure of lukewarm air on their summer drives.
Tires are from 2007, so I'm definitely getting some new shoes. I've been holding off, since I'm not certain I'm keeping the wheels. They seem fine, but I like a new wheel when I revive a car. In the meantime, some new lugs and wheel caps cleaned up things.
open lugs
Engine bay looking a little better. Not a fan of this air-box. My straps are really sad, it feels really sloppy. Anyone have a favorite air-box alternative? Or, is staying stock with new straps the way to go?

Cheers guys, happy Sunday.
Welcome back to the SC World Domination Plot!!!
I ditched al much plumbing as I possibly could on my 82. I ditched the blower motor and with SSIs I get enough heat at the footwells to toast bread, ok, maybe warm up a baguette. Plenty warm on a cold morning, but do remember that I live in SoCal, Mine is a diff purpose, so having rid myself of interior as well, and the only thing I added was a carrera oil cooler in the fender where the radiant cooler (not the US trombone) used to sit, and a DAS roll bar. Replaced suspension bits (so no net change there), my car was corner balanced and weighed in a 2550. I like!
Enjoy the project on this beauty!
Edward
Beautiful car, and you are clearly having fun personalizing it. Puzzled why you'd swap wheels, though. Those look fine, and anything else would be a downgrade.
Congratulations !
Beautiful SC.
AC was removed on mine and heat was back dated along with SSI's.
They put out put out plenty of heat, even when the Temps were in the low 20s.

Thanks guys, I'm really loving this car and the projects I have planned. Should be a nice summer to get this one dialed in.
raspritz, that's just what I needed to hear, and I agree. Any other wheel being a downgrade does it for me and new tires are ordered. Thanks!
