Hi Guys,

I've been getting organized around project prioritization. It seems my seats are deteriorating rapidly with each drive, so, that's moved to the top. I have some incoming and hope to get them in over the weekend.

Thanks GothingNC! I'm debating taking out the blower motor too. If I do this, will I still get heat with the SSIs? I definitely don't need full heat for winter driving, but would it be pointless to have the SSI's without the blower motor?

Mark Salvetti - thanks for the info on AchtungKraft! That airbox looks fantastic. Pricey, but definitely better to look at in the engine bay.

Engine and trans mounts on the way along with a new shift coupler and some other wear items. I need a month of Sundays to get everything done on this one, for sure.

Default Some Minor Updates

Hi all,

I got some minor work accomplished on my SC over the past week or so. Nothing major at all, but wanted to post in effort to assist anyone that might consider some small things like this.

I removed the window tint, which I've done a few times on cars of mine. Great thing about window tint is it generally keeps the interior protected from sun damage, which is especially helpful in the US southwest, where my SC spent 41 years. To my delight, the tint came off really easily, using the method of simply applying heat via heat gun. After the subject area was good and warm/hot, i simply used a small pick to create a pull tab. Working slowly and methodically, all the tint came off without any glue residue at all. Also, the rear window tint came off without any damage to the defrost grid. Pleasantly surprised at an easy removal.

Here's the car after tint removal. A nice improvement for a Michigan car.

post tint removal

Another small but rewarding job, was on the hood badge/ emblem. Mine was showing some 'minor' wear, so I opted to replace. I'd like to get the original badge refinished, or maybe do it myself as a project using some wine red in place of the red on the OEM badge. Simple swap with an 8mm socket on a thin extension to remove/ replace. It was nice to refresh the rubber mounting grommet and clean/ polish/ wax under and around the new badge.

My original badge has seen better days.

New badge...it's the little things.

Nice cosmetic enhancement. Amazed by how different this color (wine red) looks under various lighting conditions. I goes from bronze copperish to light purpleish.

And here are the seats I'm putting in. Waiting on new sliders, but they'll be in soon. I'm planning to add some pepita to the door cards and rear seats as well.

Recaro Classic LX...keeping with the interior theme.

Some really small items, but each little mod/ improvement/ maintenance check mark is really fun on the SC! Can't explain it really, but I feel like the car is thankful! I'm sure it's just me.

Happy Mother's Day to all of them out there! I took a break from the garage today to make sure I wouldn't be sleeping in it. Though, I can think of worse fates.

Tim, nice work! Heard this past weekend you bought an air-cooled. Keep everyone updated, beautiful color and those seats are going to look outstanding in that SC. Have fun.

[QUOTE=Tmistry;18787862]

I do plan to keep the blower up front for heat, and will likely be going with a SSI / M&K set-up for exhaust. Even though I'd like to just go with headers, having heat in the early morning adds quite a bit to my driving enjoyment and I'm able to keep driving well into late autumn, more comfortably. Any advice from anyone out there that kept their heat/ deleted A/C is appreciated. I poured over threads on it, so I think I have it under control...but one never knows."

Bursch advertises a header option with heat exchangers. I have their headers without them and I'm thinking about swapping, just as you said. I have the straight headers in now and I'm an old school guy, but I confess to a little giggle when the sound to my docile motor suddenly comes on at 3,100 rpm.

Great looking car!
Love the refreshed badges and seats.
Can you let us know where you sourced the seats? I am considering an update on mine.
Thanks

Hi Tom, thanks for your kind words! Will definitely be posting updates as this one comes together. Quite a few updates happening on the SC, in shorter order than expected. Didn't expect to get the full interior renovation, but it'll be fun. Need to get my heat back-dated and exhaust sorted too.

Talk soon!

@mdkrp Thanks! Hoping to have quite a bit more progress in the coming weeks.

Sure thing, I ordered the seats and sliders from Vivid Racing. I found the service good and I've ordered from them quite a bit. I believe they're in your area, Phoenix/ Mesa? Not certain, but definitely in AZ. Cool guys, well run outfit. I can recommend them with confidence.

Default Update on my interior work

Hi guys! It's been a while and I finally got around to getting some more things done on my SC. I ended up going with new interior pieces from Lakewell, along with a carpet set. I didn't plan to tackle interior first, but it was definitely a rabbit hole that I've yet to emerge from. Still waiting on rear quarter panels and new belts. I have new door cards and rear seats too, both with houndstooth, that should be here soon. A few pics of the progress:

after the clean out. AC gone, radio gone, airbox controls gone. I feather sanded the boards and cleaned it up as best I could manage. I not putting a full carpet set in and I wanted the grey to be part of the interior.

relatively easy to get the carpet started.

Felt to good to get the bulky sound dampening thing out of the car.

Really liking the Lakewell interior parts. My parcel shelf is test fit here. Nice aroma to the Nappa leather and no speaker holes!

Test fitting the passenger seat. I went with Rennline floor boards. I get a audible tap when pushing the clutch in, which I don't like, so I'll likely use my carpet on top of the board.

I like the fit of the new Recaros.

This is how I plan to leave the carpet set. I like the cleaned out look and some of the floor showing. Need to change that MOMO horn button!

New headlights too. I actually liked the sugar scoops, but ended up with LEDs. A bit of a modern touch that I wanted.

Took my first drive this evening after AC removal and all the interior work and man, I love this car! The engine seemed to rev faster, more torque. With some of the weight gone the whole drive just felt better and the car seemed to appreciate being unfettered, which is of course, in my head! Definitely reminded of why I love these cars though. Not a squeak or rattle to be heard, the smooth, sweet hum of the motor. Can't wait to tackle the exhaust upgrade and get to the mechanical side of things. Lots more to do!

Cheers all, hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Great work; everything looks fantastic!

I totally agree about how losing the weight feels like the car is free to rev and leap! My 82's engine was rebuilt (by the PO) to stock save for mild 964 cams and SSI into a Dansk, conservative burble but reminds you she did not drive off the showroom floor. And wow, does it rev and rip through gears! At 2550lbs it feels so responsive and connected, a tactile feast to the driver's senses. These SCs are wonderful beasts to begin with but taken just a shade toward the raw side really wakes them up. I feel "adding lightness" and a modest suspension work transforms these already capable cars, as if to say this is what it the SC was really meant to do! Enjoy yours, and looking forward to your next steps

Edward.
