Default proper fuel filter for 1980 911sc

doing some maint on my '80 911sc and ended up hopping online and ordered a fuel filter. when it came it, it was a bosch 71021 which looks to be used on several models. after playing with a small mirror on a stick, i was able to see the label on my current filter and it is a mahle kl22.

Did i get the wrong filter?

The website I ordered from says the bosch filter is for a 78 to 80sc. did the p.o. possibly install the wrong mahle filter ?

thanks in advance for your suggegstions.

Personally I'd go with the Mahle.....

but the Bosch would be the runner up....

+1 what DB said.

Last year one of my buddies bought an oil filter from Porsche that was light and cheap like a Fram. I told him to take it back. I wouldn't let it on his car. I went home and got one from my stash, had him go with a Mahle. I bought a Mann more as a curio piece or flashback to the old 356 days. I would only use a Mahle.

Correct filter is a Mahle P/N 903118 (performance products, or a Bosch 0-450-905-021 from Pelican.

Reviving a very old thread in case it helps someone else. My 1980 still had the 450 905 016 filter on it when I got the car. Bosch no longer makes the -016 filter, it's been replaced with 450 905 021. The problem is the outlet changed from 14mm to 12mm so the original fitting of 14mm male to the 16mm inverted male for the fuel line won't work. It took me awhile to figure out that you need to order fitting 930-110-199-00-OEM that has the correct 12mm male outlet to 16mm male inverted flare for the fuel line. Hope this helps someone else.

.

This post was super helpful as I was also baffled when the replacement Bosch fuel filter 0 450 905 021 arrived and the arrow was pointing in the opposite direction of the original 0 450 905 016. Knowing that I had to follow the arrow of flow - what was I going to do to get his to fit. Ordering the new fitting now and corss fingers everything will work out for me.

Thanks

it will be fine , always remove fittings from filters before throwing them out .

some filters in the past i have ordered have come with the fittings, new ones not so much.
