Default 16" Space saver ?

Dumb question here but for those 3.2 Carerra's that came from the factory with 16" Fuchs rather than 15", was the space-saver also 16" ?

Just trying to determine if such a thing as a 16" space-saver either exits or is necessary before I upgrade to 16é Fuchs.

Thanks,
Ian.

I don't have a Carrera, but my car came with 16" Fuchs from the factory and I have a 15" space saver spare. The question I have is, can I buy a new spacesaver to put on an old 16X6 Fuchs wheel and have it fit in the trunk?

My '87 Carrera with 16" Fuchs has the 15" space-saver. Before going the Fuch rim spare with a space- saver tire (if you can find a 16") check the wheel off-set, there is a big differance between the Fuchs and the space- saver

l think the 928 spacesaver is a 16" but really l don`t think it`s going to matter much for most of us.The difference in diameter won`t cause any problems nor will the offset since if you use it at all it`ll be for a very brief time at low speed.l think the later Turbo 944 has an aluminum spacesaver that may also be 16".That may be the one to have.Personally l don`t keep a spare in the boot, just a compressor and some flat repair liquid and kit.l use that space for sophisticated electronics and my nitrous tanks.

Might cause a problem if you've upgraded to bigger brakes ... like the ones on a 928.

I mentioned the offset in regards to clearing the fuel tank 'hump'. I test fit a 8x16 Fuch (the only size I have unmounted), and it fits with it's offset of 112mm. Since the 7x16 and 6x16 have the same 112mm backspacing they should fit the 'hump'. Although there is only about 1 inch of clearance between the wheel rim, and the fuel tank. I measure the collapsed height of the space-saver at 2 inches, so it is either a no-fit, or a force-to-fit. Perhaps 'we' could just swap our spare 16" Fuch for a 15" Fuch and used the stock space-saver. Backspacing on the 15" (6s,7s,8s) is also 112mm. Only 'odd-ball' is the 7x15 R with 138mm backspacing, but if you have one of those, you are a lucky sap anyway

Just curious if anyone knows if a 15" fuchs wheel is lighter than the 15" steel spare?
