Happy so far with the Continental ExtremeContacts on my 16s. Granted I was coming from low pro 18s that were way to wide, so I would have seen a huge improvement regardless.

I use these in 17s on the 993 ..superb all-around tire that offers excellent grip and still good mileage. Certainly not the "ultimate" tire for those who actually want their tires to last a bit. Oh, and don't cost a mint, as well!
