Default Advice on a 911 G WB

Hi all,

I am looking for some advice regarding a 1984 3.2 carrera WB (491) that's is for sale near me. I must confess my knowledge on G series is very limite.
How rare are the WB? How far apart is the value from a Turbo and from a NB?
I can already tell that the cons of these first series are the lack of AC, no G50, sunroof, the interior needs some attention and maybe other details I am missing. Also the steering wheel has been swapped.
I leave some photos so that you can look it up and bring some more clarity to my possible buy.

Thanks!!!

Reach out to Frank Amaroso https://rennlist.com/forums/members/...k-amoroso.html. He seems to be an expert enthusiast on those cars.

This thread should get you going...

Thank you. I was actually going through that thread =) I need to get the vin and look for other details in person. I also saw that price wise, it gets between NB and turbo, maybe closer to the turbo. This one is much closer to the NBs and that's the reason why I am so curious about it!

With regards to the G50 comment, I would tend to say that though some say that it's a flaw I would say the 915 adds character and a vintage feeling to the 911. If it's sorted out it's very pleasant to drive. It has this kind of rhythm to it that modern transmissions lack. I have limited experience with the G50 but I liked my 1984 Carrera's driving feel better than a G50 equipped 993.

Is this a factory widebody 491 (rare) or an aftermarket conversion? Quite different. Most prospective buyers of classic cars are looking for unmolested cars. A factory widebody 491 or a true turbo would be quite desirable in today's market. A widebody conversion far less so.

A factory M491 has the same brakes as the 911 turbo of the era. Easy to spot as the front brake calipers on an M491 are mounted differently

G50 vs 915 is totally a personal preference issue. I for one prefer the G50 in my '88 to any well sorted 915. Others here will say the opposite.
A factory M491 is highly desirable.

Thanks for all your answers. The car was sold already and I didn't get an answer regarding if it was an original 491 or not. Considering the price, I really tend to think it was a modified body but... I can't tell!

Cheers
