Hello, I'm actually posting this for my brother who just purchased this "barn find". I have owned Porsche's before (slant nose) and I guess that made me the expert :-). Anyway, This car is an 83 on the vin yet it has a badge on it that says a 1992 AM roadster. It was "restored" by Claude Ratte who apparently did a lot of hollywood cars. It was imported by a "Kevin Johnston" who we are not sure exactly who he is? Either way we cannot find a contact for them. So i'm guessing its a gray market car but the American Roadster Porsche badge on the door (Re-bodied by Porsche?) and the "Claude Ratte" badge under the hood are throwing us for a loop. Anyway here is two pics of the badge on the jam and under the hood that I am talking about.
Its on the "rebody" plate here. But I'll try to get a better pic from my bro. It's clearly an 83 but the "rebody" or import plate from porsche is what is throwing a loop? Just trying to figure out the deal with it.
The problem with this car is it's a 83 on the vin. And the car is clearly an earlier car than a 92 (motor,trans,body,etc..) just the rebadge/rebody is the mystery.
What is the VIN number stamped next to the smugglers box in the trunk?
I'll try to get a picture of the actual vin plate but like I said, the actual vin plate states an 83. The vin number in this "special plate" is the actual vin (same number as the vin plate). Without this "rebody plate" or whatever you wanna call it, it's just a 83. Just trying to figure out what the whole re-plate / import/ restored by is about.
i would imagine that plate was just added after by the guy who did the work , much like Gambella would do the same.
I think its really just a modified SC, not worth as much as a stock car in my mind, but i guess everyone is different, looks in rough shape too.
Yeah we knew it was modified. Just wondered if anyone knew the history as the Claude Ratte guy apparently did a lot of cars for Hollywood. It actually is in good shape. The pic is after my brother started stripping it. He's done a lot of restores before. Thank you though and I'll check the link.
