What's it worth? 1984 Carrera
Hi,
I usually hang around the '44 boards but I sometimes troll here too
My father is looking to sell his 84 Carrera and he has no idea what it is worth. Maybe some of you who follow the market closely can clue us in.
The car is a rare ruby-red metallic, 52,XXX miles, full records, factory f+r spoilers, truly needs nothing. I've attached a pic below:

The shop that does my work just recently unloaded one of their customers cars in similiar shape [provided its mechanically solid] for 21k.
The rare colour and miles are a wonderful plus. Best of luck and make sure he doesnt sell to the first idiot lowballer

Well...it is a super color....the quest would be to find a person willing to pay more cash for that color. If is had a black interior that would be plus. The low miles and records make it a easy sell to a smart buyer. I would say 21K is a good high end....and 18K at the low end, depending on how you can take the trauma of trying to sell a 911 out in the public world...somehow selling a 911 shakes the freak-tree of potential buyers and weirdos in the world.

I recently registered and (in PA had to re-title my 1984) 3.2 Coupe as a "Classic
Car" They wanted an appraisal which I obtained from a dealer who "knows" the car. The Porsche Dealer gave me a value of $13,900 which I still believe/contest to be low. However, I will never sell it. It was my first Porsche and how can one sell a 40 year dream.
Stats:
3rd owner
outstanding inside and out, usual stone chips and dings aside. New carpet pending.
125,000 miles (very stout). Some dripping leaks with Mobil1 after sitting, but no burning oil.
B&B dual headers, exhaust (2500 Drone side)
new "lightened" OEM fly wheel, rear main seal and clutch
upgraded suspension w/turbo tie rods, torsion bars, f & r sway bars
new sport motor mounts
H4 Headlights
factory short shift kit
new motor,tranny sport mounts
7 and 8 inch (944) wheels w/spacers
RennList Sticker!!!!
and much more.
I figure more like $20,000 replacement.

It seems prices are all over the place. It guess it proves that these cars are not commodities and that each one is special. I don't have the exact numbers on the color, but I know it is very rare since it was only offered in 84 and 85. It is darker than the burgundy metallic offered on doug's SC and the metallic flakes set it apart from the arena red offered on the 993. It really has to be seen in person to be appreciated.

Seriously-I think you hit it right on your last post. These cars are special, and prices are all over the place. I went to look at an '84 guards red cab with 90k, and complete records for an asking price of $19,900 today. look in the back of Panorama and you can find a stripped, burnt tub that has been sitting under the titanic for 5 years on sale for $30,000.
I think $21 is pretty good. Someone will fall in love with it the second they see it (I'm close). Their brain will look at the records, but their heart will not think too much about the price (within reason).

$23-$25K - Low miles - In the NE - I bet you could sell it for that with the spring coming - And I think prices are starting to rebound a little on the Carreras.
