Default 930 Oil pressure gauge - erratic

I have noticed recently my oil pressure gauge is erratic above 3,000 RPM with my 1982 930. I have good steady oil pressure, its just the oil pressure needle bounces at or above 4 bar oil pressure. Oil pressure transducer, loose electrical connection?

connection?

Its where I would start...is there a loose wire somewhere, either on the gauge or sender.

Since I have been knee deep in rewiring my project for a few months now, also watch for a wire that got hot, old, cracked and may be leaking magic smoke somewhere.....

I had a problem a few years ago that was fixed when I replaced the oil pressure sender.

Good info in this thread, with a quick test in post #10 that answered it for me:

https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...e-way-off.html

"if you wanna do a quick check remove the wire from the sender with the ignition on. you should get total defection one way, then ground it to the engine and it should deflect totally the other way. if this happens the guage is working and its the sender." - theiceman

And I would think that having yours seem to work OK up to a certain RPM, then not working well above that, would rule out a simple connection problem, which would probably be the same regardless of engine RPM.

Thanks, I really like the white gauges as well. The 930 purists do not like them.

The gauges themselves are stock, however the previous owner had the white faces installed. They look really nice especially at night as well.

I will look up the invoice and let you know. Also I believe North Hollywood Speedometer can do them as well (https://www.nhspeedometer.com/)

it is unlikely it is only a loose wire above 3 bar. more than likely sender

My issue is oil pressure at higher RPM and on boost. I'm thinking it must be a connection as the oil pressure is good an linear with RPM increasing then above 2,800 and on boost the oil pressure gauge bounces around 4 bar.
