Hello everyone, just wanted to say what an asset this forum is, I so very much appreciate all the interaction and support!
I just purchased a great little G50 Targa. 1987, Diamond Blue Metallic with dark blue interior. 88k miles, all original.
is there any advice, guidance, tips or tricks you can share that would have been helpful to you when you took delivery of your very first air cooled porsche?
anything is welcomed, from technical, fluid recommendations, how the climate control works (ha) anything!
Probably the most important things to familiarize yourself with is how to check the oil level (only when the car is up to temperature and idling on a level surface), types of oil to use, items are that often in need of attention after 30 years (rubber brake lines, fuel lines, tires), places to watch for hidden rust.

Here is a thread that can help with the ventilation system: https://rennlist.com/forums/911-foru...ter-vents.html . Your car has blowers in the foot wells that can be problematic. They often seize up, and I'm not sure if they are fused (there are a number of circuits that are not fused that you should eventually address).
Hopefully this will get you started. And post some detailed photos! We might spot some things you should know about.

check oil when car is warmed up and idling (yes engine running). oil level should be right in between the 2 lines.
Warmed up my take a little while in the cold! The first narrow mark on the oil temp gauge at about 8 O' clock is 90C/194F and warmed up. Flat level surface and engine idling. Don't check it cold and engine off!!!!
Mark's recommendation regarding the "101 Projects for your Air Cooled Porsche" is spot on. This is a great read and you'll go back to it many times. There are some peculiarities with these cars as compared to most, things like jack locations to safely lift the car are important to know. This forum is absolutely the place to get good info and liberally use the search feature to find old posts. Most questions can be answered that way. Anxious to see some pics. I bought my first 911 ( 84 Targa) about 8 years ago and then decided to sell it for something different. Missed it a great deal and recently jumped back in with my 85 Coupe. They are just fantastic driving cars and not overly complicated to maintain. Some things that need attention regularly, but most anything in this category will. You will really enjoy it. Take care. Im decently handy, while also knowing when to let the professionals step, the 101 book sounds perfect.
Ill take some better pictures soon with the Fuchs on it as those Anterra wheels will be going on sale shortly!

One thing that you'll want to address immediately - you seem to be missing the air filter on the engine! Maybe someone with a 3.2L can comment, but there should be a black plastic box with an orange strap at top right in the engine compartment.

thank you! This one had a conical filter on it, was removed when the picture was taken, replacing with new.
Great! I guess something else we haven't talked about are good vendors for parts. Pelican Parts is the obvious choice, but you can often find the same bits cheaper.
