Post How do you Check the oil pressure gauge

My oil pressure gauge pegs all the way to the top as soon as I turn on the key even without starting the car. Is there a way to test the gauge and the sending unit to determine which is at fault. Does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks
Rick

The sending unit is located on the right hand side of the engine right near the corner of the fan. It is about the size of a small spice container. you will need a 27mm crow's foot to remove and replace it and will cost approximately $75. However, I doubt that your sending unit or your gauge is bad. I would check the connection to the sending unit, at the sending unit. These are notorious for getting loose and not making a connection. The result is what you are experiencing, or a gauge needle that jumps. I fixed mine by pushing a mechanic's pick in the metal of the connector and bending it to make it tighter. It now works perfect.
