Default Opinion: 1979 Porsche 911

I am looking for a 1978 to 1983 Porsche 911 to purchase. The closest I have been able to find is this one (link below). I am not enthused about some of the after-market add-ons, but wanted to see what some of your opinions are. This is my first post to the forum and I look forward to seeing what the community thinks. Thanks in advance for any insight, observations and opinions. Link below (hope it works):

so you are looking for an SC which is a great entry point into the air cooled world.

drive as many as you can as I found the ones i test drove were completely different feelings. condition changes the driving experience a lot on air cooled cars i find.

Welcome.

Looks like a nicely finished car. Expanding your search a little farther might get more hits. Have you tried the usual places like CL, autotrader, and autotempest?

Cars that fit your time window are pretty common. Ideally, you should view and try a lot of them before making a purchase.

I am on my eleventh air cooled over 48 years and each new purchase i looked at many cars and drove them to get the feel. That way you gleen much information. A lot of us who drive a porsche have had previous p cars so much thought goes into next one long before we sell present one. For me i have missed a full season of driving waiting for the one that checks off most of the boxes. Finding the perfect car your looking for hardly ever happens. My advice is look at and drive as many as you can. A stock porsche or close to other than a nice suspension up grade will bring you best selling value. Good luck. I love the hunt for my next porsche.

Thanks for the reply. I was aware of autotrader, but not autotempest. Is CL an abbreviation?

Great advice. I currently have three. I started with a 2015 Turbo S and all purchases since then have me going backwards, as in earlier models. After the 2015, I purchased a 2013 Carrera S and, just recently, a 2009 Turbo MT. I'm in no rush to purchase an air-cooled, but it can be hard to exhibit patience when I get the itch. LOL!

This 1980 911 SC popped up on CarGurus...158k miles...just under $30,000, which seems low?

Looks like a fair price considering the mileage, repaint and the dent and hope the head studs have not snapped.

Need photos under the chassis and motor.

Plus is it has sports seats.

I will try to post the pictures here...I am not the best at doing this, so I apologize if they do not post properly. How would I ask the dealer about the head studs? One last question before I post the pics: are sports seats not the proper seat for this year model? I don't know much about the air-cooled era models.

Head studs are checked via removing the lower valve covers.

Sports seats were an option and can be desirable, i have them and love the seats. Can be a tight fit depending on your size.

I would arrange an independent PPI to look it over.

Since you are new to the air-cooled world, I recommend this book to help out with your quest.

Good luck !

It is poor update of a 1990-1994 964 with horrible body kit.
It is worth 25k at best.

move on to something a little more period correct or original for that kind of money.

What color would you desire? How much is your budget for purchase and budget to repair?

You can buy these cars as "drivers" for 25-35k. Good examples are $40-50k.
Suspension refresh, Engine out service for head studs etc can run you upwards 20k+
