Vintage 911's - How often driven

Saw a thread on the 993 board regarding low milage cars - just curious how many miles you guys drive a year on your cars. Anybody use them as a daily driver? Would it be too costly (from an upkeep standpoint) to use a Carrera or SC as one? I see a many 944's do daily duty how about older 911's???

Well cared for 911s are less expensive to maintain than 944's and many are daily driven, especially in warmer climes like Atlanta.

last summer 10,000-12,000 miles.
6,300 of them to cali and back.. and im gonna do it again this year. also went to asheville, NC and back, Cleveland & back about 4 times, Effingam, Illinois and back, cincy and back 5 times. most of my driving is on long extended trips, and high spirited drives through the central ohio countryside, as well as what ever kind of craziness i can get into on the roads i travel when on my trips.

My brother in law drives his '86 daily without a problem beyond changing wheels for the snow season.
I put about 4,000+ miles per year on my '72.
My father has 350,000 (only 20,000 or so sidways) miles on his '69 since he bought it new.
And yes they are much cheaper to keep going than 944's.

I try to go out every day, all through winter even. So what if there's salt and rain, I can wash it, if it rusts, get someone to fix it. I even go out in it just for 15 mins because when I look at it, I have to drive it. Many trips to the fuel station (just put a bit in so I have an excuse to go again) baker, bank, anywhere. I pay road tax, insurance, maintenance, whats the point in not using it. As they say, you only live once.

FWIW I've driven my 77S (with 3.0L enlarged to 3.2 and CIS) at least 5 days a week, from about 15 Mar to 15 Dec for the last 15 years, averaging about 6000 mi per yr.

I drive my '76 Targa (3.0L from a '78) every day, to work, to the store, whatever. It is a ton of fun at the track or autocross too. Probably about 8k per year.

I drive my 86 daily for my job in outside sales. I put about 3000 miles a month on the car and it just runs like a champ.
Ive put some money into the car...but these were in the form of upgrades more than "repairs" (tires, shocks, etc.) The tires and Bilsteins have really made a difference in the way that it handles.
The only "repair" that it has needed was a new clutch, which cost me about $1850...but I bought the car in that condition and I knew going in that it would need a new clutch immediately. So, I consider this part of the purchase price that I paid.
The car is now well sorted and I do not anticipate any major repairs for a long time. It makes a wonderful daily driver.

I drive my 79 Targa almost everyday. I've covered over 6000 miles since December ...and in all conditions.
I also have a 944S (86) and that also gets used, nearly 4000 miles over the same period.
Regards
Jon J
