Default Cabriolet Top replacement

Have a friend who needs to replace his black top on a 1988 Cab. this summer. Any suggestions on who to contact besides a dealer. Any clue as to what he should expect to pay?

Thanks,

Brad

Hey , almost forgot I supplied the top , got it from meads in Detroit. I didn't want the poor guy to get bombarded with phone calls .

Ol Camille is giving it away for free.

A new top install normally runs $1500 - $2000, including the top. But the parts are only about $400 of that total, the rest labor.

Hey chuck You must be talking about the dealer, In my opinion it would be crazy to pay that to anyone for a top installation. Does it take more than a day to install? I sure wish I made 1600 a day. This is a one man legit. shop.Alot less over head I guess.

I know when I installed my new top, it almost drove me insane Has been there 2+ yrs now and still looks great, so I guess it was worth it. The cost at the shops around here was off the wall. It took me some time to get everything just right with no wrinkles and all the hand fitting and trimming and glueing the parts that get glue and fitting the rest of them was a real PITA. I hope it last for many more years, because I don't know if I would do it by myself again.

If you buy your own top, a good aftermarket brand is Robbins.

I had mine done this last November. I purchased it from Cabrio-World. Great top at a good price. I think it was $375-400. I paid $575 to have it installed at a local auto top shop. They said it was an 8-12 hr. job if you know what you are doing. I think it was well worth the money to have them do it. I love working on my car, but putting that top on looked like a real PITA.
