Default First topless run

It was an outrageously balmy day in NY today (45 deg), so I took the opportunity to take the top off and go for a drive. Had to take the new Steve W. chip out for a test run anyway.

So this is my first 911. Pulled the trigger after many years of almosts. Always bought another fun car instead, but I finally fulfilled the childhood dream. '88 targa, venetian blue. 110k miles. Stock (not for long ) except for stereo. 2 PO, records to day 1. Picked it up a week ago.

Yeehaaw!

Congrats on your ride!

I was 14 when Porsche lust hit me. Only took me 27 years to buy my first. (And if I could figure out how to attach a picture of my car, I would.)

And I'm an animal lover too. But looking at that picture? I'm thinking Cat-apult!

Doug:

I hadn't quite thought of it that way, but yes. Good sign I guess

He's my cat, so I'm used to paw prints on the cars. Oh well. Perhaps some wax making company could put cat repellent in their car wax?

I like the chip, but haven't really had a chance to really try it. Hit a bit too much traffic yesterday, though 2nd gear 4k to redline run seems to happen with somewhat more alacrity!. To forestall any flamewars - This is not my first sportscar, nor my first chip. If it's only placebo (which I don't believe), I'm fine with that too - so there.

Got new bilsteins and a used sport muffler sitting in my office. Hoping for good weather this weekend to do some wrenching.

Now if we could just get Porsche to build a C4S "classic" Targa, or even a T-top!

Hi Stef,

Fabulous colour. Glad to see I'm not the only one who loves the Targa.

One quick rant! why is it whenever I meet coupe' owners they always assume I could not afford the tin top....I actually prefer the dual option of the Targa...even in England!

Keep that top off....

He's a cat...I think they just like a higher viewpoint, so they'll jump on anything. Cars just seem to be at the right height! And that gradual sloping hood is an easy on ramp. As long as he doesn't need his nails to get up, he'll be fine. I might "discourage" him from getting to the targa top, however....

Cute kitty!

Jon: Thanks. The yellow is pretty nice/unique too. But I gotta say I'd do the wheels in black. I've always liked the team bumblebee look
To tell the truth, I like the lines of the coupe better, but I needed a topless machine again and somehow I preferred the targa over a cab. The look has grown on me as I was hunting, and now that it's in my driveway I really like it! .
I don't think I get that affordability thing here. Seems kind of silly in that yes, the targa is perhaps a little less than a coupe, but it all seems a bit moot when compared to people buzzing around in 993 & 996 TTs.

Doug: Yes, he's a cat. So after I yell at him for jumping on the top he'll only do it when I'm not looking. He's very social. he loves snoozing in the car when I'm working on it. The hatch in the 944 apparently is particularly comfy, esp when it's in the sun.

Hi Stef,

I agree re: the look of the coupe'...but it was the ability to remove the roof and trvel at over 100 (on the autobahn of course) in serene comfort that persuaded me.

I did prefer the black Fuch's, bust as these are original with the car, i've grown to like them.

I too, have the cat issue. My moggie favours the 944 rear spoiler in the sun as well...but he's also quiite keen on the 911 teatray after it's been on a run!

Serene comfort???? Are we talking about a targa here? Hardly my idea of serenety. It's a pretty loud beast at anything over 70. I'm planning on putting on a louder muffler to drown out the wind noise!

Actually my Cabriolet is quieter than my old Targa - go figure - top up or down. I stll miss my Targa though - I like the added security and stiffness.
