Need help identifying vin on 1988 911 3.2
Resent purchase, close to rare barn find for me, a 1988 911 3.2 in the weeds. Just got my title from local DMV few characters incorrect. They made me verify vin with local police. This involved a search for all areas where vin would be found. The drivers door and rear deck lid both match. To my surprise, front trunk area has similar vin but 4th 5th 6th characters are ZZZ. Starts with WP0ZZZ__________________.
Porsche dealer said it was some sort of sample car or demo not intended for sale but was issued vin after being in States. Any help with info please respond.

The VINs are: on the a pillar, the deck lid, the door jam. The chassis were stamped with the ZZZ vin at the factory. When they determined where it would go they stamped the correct vin with the country codes in the locations for that country

I agree, the Z is a placeholder and is normal. My 2004 Cayenne even has that feature, which causes problems at smog check time. Also agreeing that many of the people who should know this do not.
So my dash VIN and door jamb VIN don't match. The dash VIN is correct. The door jamb VIN has a Z in one of the characters instead of the correct number.
Also agreeing this is a cool story, so please keep us updated.
