Hi,
I am trying to track down the actual differences between the 1977 3.0 Litre Carrera that was offered in Europe and the Standard 2.7 litre 911.
My situation is this, I have a 1977 911, when the 2.7 litre engine gave up the ghost, it was replaced with a 3.0 litre Carrera engine. The transmission was redone, the brakes updated and at the time it was converted to RHD using an actual Carrera 3.0 dash.
I have looked at pictures of the 3.0 carrera's and my car looks exactly the same. It also has ATS cookie cutter wheels, but no whale tail.
Does anyone know the technical differences between the standard 911 of the time and the 3.0 Carrera, apart from the engine, dash and optional extras?

Different markets had different trim and options such as mirrors/spoilers/seats but the major difference besides the 95 mm 3 liter pistons and al. crankcase was the body. The 3 liter had the same 9" rear flares which were eventually used on the SC and later Carrera models. In addition there were differentially sized rims 1" wider in the back(either 6&7x15 or optionaly 7&8x15 and later 6&7x16). Transmission/brakes/suspension/basic electric system were the same across the model range.

Hello
The 3,0 Carrera ( 200 HP )was the 2,7 Carrera ( 210 HP ) follow up and had the 2,7 Carrera Suspension with S ( Turbo then too ) calipers on front ( Brake booster optinal ).
The engine is a interrim using the Turbo case but the carrera 6 bolt crank ( some 3 kg lighter ).
Rear wing and front spoiler lip was standard.
Some options and trims where only aviable with the Carerra or the Turbos.

There were several Carrera 3.0s imported into the area where I live in the late 70s and early eighties. 3 without tails and only 1 or 2 with. They all looked tiny compared to the SCs of the era, I think because of their low ride height and 15" wheels w 50 seris rubber. I remember not being able to fit the toes of my shoes under the front spoiler of a particularly striking orange one.

The Carrera 3.0 did sadly not have the alloy calipers in front, but Iron ones like would come on the SC. The spoilers were indeed an option.
Brake booster was an option in '76, became std in '77. The rear opening quarters were for '76 only.

Yes I know they came with the "A" Cast Iron Caliper and also inherited the brake booster. Out of interest? Why is it sadly? Is that because the alloy's were lighter with a larger surface area? Were they much better brakes?
