Post EXHAUST UPDATE 1975 CARRERA

HELLO

Just purchsed an original 1975 Porsche
911 Carrera with 2.7L (Original California car), and joined Renlist at the same time.

Car Still has original exhaust with thermal reactor etc. I am shipping the car back to Miami Florida and would like to change to headers for better performance and run cooler.

Can anybody suggest the right setup that would be cost effective. I was loking at the Bursch Headers and tuned muffler or the SSI. Big price difference between the two!!

Thanks Friends

SSI are a true equal length header with heat, which have the additional benefit of being constructed of stainless steel. This later is an asset for two reasons, one, they will last practicly forever, and two, a failure of the inner pipe which would allow carbon monoxide to enter the cabin via heater ducts is not likely.

The Bursch that I have seen are neither ss nor have heat. They are a lot cheaper. So for a racecar that doesn't need heat they may be ok. For a street car I would spend the extra $$ for the SSIs.

Any standard 2 in 2 out 911 muffler whether ss or mild steel can be bolted on to the header. Again I would pay a little more for ss. I found the life expectancy of mild steel mufflers to be only ~2 years.

Although in FL, one reason to consider SSI's may not be for heat, rather, for the defroster, if you ever need it, in addition to the other points covered by AES.

Thanks for the guidance. I think I'll go with SSI headers and OEM muffler. Anybody know a good place to go for a well priced pair of SSI headers?
