The 63 vette is beautiful.
I suggest driving a 911
Try a 911sc a 964
Id avoid the 2.7 motor
I personally like the 915 tranny over the g50 if its set up right.
id go for a hardtop
Just get out and drive a few that Will help you.
Once I drove the g500 I knew I dident want it lol

The Vette is sold now just waiting for funds to be wired into my account. Once the money is in there the shopping begins I’m definitely looking at air cooled coupe. I’ve had my eye ona 1987 red coupe and a 1981 coupe, the 81 is a bit cheaper. My mechanic set me up with a friend who is a Porsche fanatic so I have someone I can point me in the right direction. Now the fun begins.

I bought a 911 years ago it was repainted this that blah blah not up to my standards
Its been several years but its being done right

89 was a good year as it was the last year of the g body cars and obviously the last year of the 3.2, and the only year 8" Fuchs came standard on the back end. 81 is less interesting as it was mid cycle for the SC. The point is moot if the car in question has an unusual color/spec. Keep us posted!

Brings back some memories when I went through the same. I think I looked at several online, test drove about 4 (having never driven an air cooled 911 prior!). I was able to drive both the 915 and G50 tranny and both were fine by me.
In the end I found a well sorted '87 from a fellow Rennlister and pulled the trigger and haven't looked back.
It probably brings me more joy than my beloved 991 Targa GTS- and I drive them both "like I stole them".

Crash, congrats on the sale of the vette. You answered the question yourself when you said "but always wanted a Porsche since I was 16..." That itch won't go away until you get in one, and for what it's worth many of us here have lived the same experience and can't get enough of them now. Find a well sorted one, take your time, and when you find the right one grab it even if you spend a bit more up front. then buy your wife something nice so she looks the other way once you get to hot-rodding it :-)

For what it's worth, I took my 911 from Ontario to Nova Scotia, last year. Two legs of 8 hours in the seat each way. Most comfortable car I've ever owned, until the 2011 Cayenne with 14 way seats I picked up last Christmas.
The older I get, the more I appreciate a good driving position.

You'll love the 911 but don't rush selecting one, there are many available and are always more listed. Bat is good since it won't be sold out from under you and you can ask the seller questions ask week.... And makem see it if local. I would suggest a 87 to 89 for the transmission and hydraulic clutch. Miles aren't really important so don't be afraid of over 100k.
Look over the completed auctions and ask yourself, would you have paid the selling price?

It's done pulled the trigger on a 1987 911, got lucky, my wife's uncle knew a guy retiring and selling off his assets before retiring. Had someone check it out for me and had a very detachment report. Car has been driven so has minor paint chips, air needs recharging and very minor things that I can do myself. Car was just serviced 200km ago and runs strong. Got it for a real good price I didn't want a perfect car because I want to add my personal touches to the car.

Probably more user friendly than the earlier ones without the hydraulic clutch and G50 gearbox , although that's still
debatable ...
I bought my 89 some 10 years ago from a work colleague who was retiring and i never looked back !
As for adding your "personal " touch to the car ... i'm close to 60K with mine and stopped counting a long time ago ... lol
