1985 911
Hi new to rennlist and I have some questions I hope someone can help out with.
I have a car that has no title and the state has no record of it. How does one go about getting title?
the vin comes up as invalid when I try to find out details about the car.

There are several companies that will do a title search for you. They will search every state. Look them up on the internet.
Vermont will give you a registration/plates for any car over 15 years of age with nothing more than a bill of sale. You can then take that registration to your state DMV and have it transferred over. This called the Vermont loop hole. Look it up on the internet.
First, though, I would have the police run the vin to make sure it is not stolen. You should also have someone do a lien check as well.

If you want to try to get info from Porsche, you might try this email address: customer.commitment@porsche.us
I was able to get some info from them regarding my Cayenne's VIN, however it was not completely correct, so don't just believe whatever they say.

can you post a picture of the driver's door jamb ?
Also, in the trunk, under the carpet, just behind the fuel tank, you should find the VIN stamped there as well. Make sure it matches the door.
I have an 80 911 SC that has a replacement VIN from the state of CA. Unless you bought the car new or know the detailed history from the time it was sold new, there is no way to confidently know if was never stolen/recovered or stolen/sold.
Car security in this era was a joke. These cars are super easy to jack and have always been a target for thieves.
PCNA will sell you a COA. I am not sure what it costs. Probably $100.

Wow, you guys can't answer such an easy question? First, it is indeed a valid VIN. The 17-character VIN decodes as a 911, built in Stuttgart in 1985 for Europe/Rest of World (not USA) production, serial number 50802.

thanks!!! I was told it is a German import. It has the slant nose. Not sure if it's original. RHD
