Introduction and History of my 911 targa 1973
Dear All,
this is a great platform to share Porsche experiences which I now would like to use for my concern.
At First a short introduction:
I am located in Germany in North Rhine Westphalia and driving a 911 t targa manufactured in 1972 and a 993 s build 1996.
Both are great cars, totally different driving experience.
I am usually driving for fun, some times on the Nürburgring, please find some pictures.
Now to my point: The 911 targa was shipped in 1973 into the Chicago area.
It is an 911 targa t modell, 140 HP MFI engine, color code 8810 gold metallic.
In May 2005 the car was shipped from Chicago back to Germany, I therefore assume it was all the time in that area.
Attached a picture during the frist striping in original color.
I am looking for your feedback if anybody has any information or memories about that car, it should be possible due to the seldom color.
The car was after buildup painted in silver metallic and is currently in a very good shape.
I appreciate your support very much getting historic data from that car and are looking forward to your answers.
Please let me know if you need any more details.
Best regards,
Jörg

first contact PCA, the Porsche Club of America for info on previous owners
next, you can contact any Department of Motor Vehicles for a state in the US using the internet - they all have web pages - some information is protected by privacy laws, but they can give you other info (such as dates of registrations, etc.) and many will accept and deliver a written letter from you to previous owners - you would ask the previous owner to contact you with any information about the car so include your address and Email in the letter
Good Luck!

@ r911, I have already contacted PCA, got good recommendations unfortunately without any concrete lead.
Thanks for the recommendation to contact the motor departments, will do that immediately.
I have as well the contact details of the Porsche distributors in the Chicago area, which I call as well.
@ buddalun and max69, thanks for the good feedback, appreciate that.
Anyhow, I am looking forward to any more feedback if somebody has any memories.
Best regards,
Jörg

You many also want to post your request on Pelican and early911 registry.
have you considered reaching out to PCA club in Chicago area? They may know the car if previous owner was club member. I think that is zone 4 - Great lakes Region. Lori Schutz is contact, email: zone4rep@pca.org
Good luck in your search

I had another idea - you might try contacting area dealers and ask for service history with names/addresses of owners redacted. I did that on a cult VW and they said they'd do it but I had to come in person - never tried on a 911 but it might work.
BTW, shoudl I be glad that this 911 is back home? or sad that it left the US?

@ Speedster911, thanks for the hints !
I just sended a message to the rep of PCA zone 13 and will post the same request on pelicanparts and early911 registry.
@ r911, I will call them first to see if they are open to support me, very good idea !
BTW, I believe the car had a great time in the US and is now doing well in Germany ;-)

I keep you posted as soon as I have any results.
Would be good to receive any more leads if someone has an idea or knows such a gold 911 targa build 1973 out of the Chicago region.
