Default Rear torsion bar removal question

I'm in the process of planning some suspension upgrades/maintenance for my 86 Carrera.

My potential problem will be lack of working space as I slooowly take apart my car, and slowly would be an understatement. I just want to make sure I have enough room on either side to work on. I figure I can jack up the car high enough so I can get underneath from almost any location.

I just want to make sure I have enough side room for things such as the rear torsion bar removal. I read a warning about this as I can see this being a problem. You get everything disassembled, and then something like a REAL wall stands in your way. This is how things normally go for me, so I am trying to avoid as many as these gotchas beforehand.

Any advise or suggestions before I start the slow disassembly of my car. <God help me>

i'm not sure how much room you need on each side to remove the torsion bars but if you put a 2 by 4 on a big jack and lift the car up where you can see the body end on the bottom of the car, kinda where the interior ends, right infront of the engine. just lift it up there and push it on the jack to the other end of the garage

Roughly, I believe the rear torsion bars are ~2ft. in length??

Any standard width single car garage should afford enough room to change them out.

If not, Andres "procedure" to move your 911 about the garage works well...just BE CAREFUL!

Yes, this is very close. I just measured mine and they were 24-3/4" long.

Jon:

Give yourself 4 feet to the next wall. Everything less is not only annoying but unsafe.

4 Feet, eh? I guess doing this work in cramped spaces could be dangerous. I am trouble since my garage is not that wide. I will have to do this outside when the weather is 'tolerable'. Either that or I will take my brother up on the offer of working in his 2 car garage.

Clean out the garage. Then scoot the car over to one side. Since you are doing one side at a time, you should be fine with 4 foot on one side and one foot on the other. Then change when moving sides. Just an idea. I hope you have a garage that's five foot wider than your 911?

Good Luck!

George
