Would you believe I leave in a few minutes to go into Long Beach and pick up OD's LS7/968??? The nut left it there unlocked with the key under the seat and called me an hour ago and said that his plans changed and he's in Chicago. I knew he was leaving the car with me, I just thought I was gonna get some notice and he thought he was going to Hawaii

Dude. Go get it. Keys are on my dresser. Offer Helen a stick of gum and the car is yours.

Done....almost. Just gotta find some zip ties and clean up my Cibie wires. Yes, the oil tank is tilted.

Turned the key and everything lit up...didn't tap the starter yet.

I love living vicariously through other people's fabrications skills! Kudos!

But wait (or should I say weight?): if you're reveling in saving battery weight, why are you hauling around two bottles of anything in that compartment area???

And FWIW, I love weight reduction. My simple, DIYer Trackmeister is an 82SC and tips the official scales at 2550! I have precious little in engine mods and you bet I feeeeeel the difference after gutting it!

This was not too creative buy vs build option. Weighs about 5lbs.

^^^ That is awesome, but did the entire set up cost you less than $150? My battery holder cost me a whopping $8.00 and a couple hours on drugs. I'd love having that, but I still have kids away at school and one on a mission.

Edward, how does my lowly cab weigh less than your race car? Hmm?? I used the tech scales at California Festival of Speed last year and kept track of every pound gained and lost since. Do you have a cage?

My car is a GT car more than anything. It is used for vacations and weekends away. It was built to sprint up the canyon, but almost exclusively used as a time machine to feel younger on weekends and trips. Parked all summer and parked all winter....come September I'll put rubber on my Maxilite 9's and take a trip back in time for a couple days with the wife.

Where in SoCal are you?

Oh, ya....why the oil thing...because I can. I always pack oil in a box on long trips for emergencies. I also pack a tool kit and octane booster.

My "race car" aint a "race" car per se, as I do Time Trial, and it's just a stock 82SC with very mild mods: SSI/Dansk, bolt-in roll bar, mild T-bars and Bilsteins sports, along which I dialed in as much neg camber as I could on the stock hats, and then got a proper alignment/corner balance from a well-known shop ...which is where I got the 2550 weight. So my weight reduction is really only from gutting interior, all AC/assoc. plumbing, and whetever misc. tidbits I found that I could unbolt. So nothing drastic, but 2550 is still a good couple o' hun+ loss from the stated curb weight of SCs so I'm a happy camper!!
Oh, and I'm just a bit north of the SF valley. Holler out
