Thirty-Plus Pounds Deleted ....WIP
Finally put my old Interstate battery (48lbs) on the scale tonight followed by my new Optima PC680 (14.8lbs) and discovered I'd be saving more weight than expected.
I've measured up, cut, drilled, and welded a tray that mimics the bottom of the stock battery. I'm going to use the factory hold downs on either side and have room for not just my new battery, but for a couple quarts of oil.
I purchased the battery and the off road box it goes in from a local off road shop that is basically a candy store. It will get welded to the tray. Everything will get painted then sprayed with bedliner.

I think I'll keep the stock positive cable as is because it is plenty long. The negative cable has to be replaced as it's way too short to reach the new terminal position. Will forgo the lead terminal and just use the M6 threads. Will even hardwire in the tender cable.
Switching to my phone to add pictures.....

Thank you. I've not forgotten the next round of injectors or the sway bar mod or the AFR meter, or the 16x9's, I just wanted to get this going while my shop was clean enough to use the mill....my son's car needed a wheel bearing, ball joint, tie rod, oil change, battery, and alternator on Saturday so Sunday he cleaned while I played since the day before he sat in the shade while I busted **** on his car.
Is 30#'s noticable? Oh ya! I don't know if it will effect the wheel arch height.
Oh, and would you believe the Boston Mangler OD showed up in his LS7/968 after it's 5th transcontinental cannonball. Allen says I get his car for a month. All because a rotor warped. ....OK, he has a list of mods that shat remain a secret for now.

If nothing else it looks cool. We went from San Bernardino to Santa Rosa and back without burning a noticable amount so it may be pointless to have oil at the ready, but just in case we need it on a long trip it will be there. Also need one for octane booster.

Burning Brakes
An Optima PC680 weighs 15.4 lbs. In my 911 racecar I run an Optima PC310, which weighs 5.9 lbs. It only has to start the car, and every ounce matters.

Also gotta be a pound in the tray and box....that's why I said 30#, not 33#
Welded the box and tray together last night and see I've got some grinding to do to smooth it all out because the box metal is so thin. Also going to weld the bolts in place so I only have to deal with the lock-nuts.

My smog guy already thinks I am hiding a turbo in my Bisimoto exhaust.
This is what I use:

Pretty good looking work - well after you clean up the welds. Im not showing any of my welding though . . . .
I was thinking when I saw the thread title that the fender area of these cars have some extra pork in them , but maybe not.

Have you ever read over my list of deletes? My car pisses off the purists to the inth degree. I don't even have footwell covers....let alone footwell blowers my heat is so backdated. Name one 3,2 with manual heat....I'll weight.

Like the guy at the speed shoppe said....
Robt. Linton has the motor you really want.
Or a 993RS as a consolation prize
or re-plumb for a 991 motor - less wt. & more power

This picture is from a few years ago before the last round of mods. It's got a Multi-board running it and 4 spittle injectors feeding it. It's a full stick 'a T-N-T on 'roids. Couple that with a tub that's less than 2,600 pounds and she scoots. Tap the 930 brakes and your brain exits through your eye sockets.Bisi at Bisimoto about **** when the Multi-board and his pipe added 29RWHP and that was before I swapped in the modern injectors...ain't your old man's Porch.
