Spark plugs choice...
Hi guys,
Is there a downside to running the GT3RS (Y5DDC) plugs instead of the more pedestrian oem 14FR 6LDU.
The car sees more street than track.
Thanks!
David

The Y 5DDC plug was introduced in 2004 with the 996GT3RS since then its the only spark plug used by Porsche in all their GT3 cars including the 2010GT3 and also used in the cup cars.
(RSRs use a similar one but with 0.5 gap.)
Part number is 999 170 129 90 and has an E.A of 0.8, according to Bosch it is more reliable and it's made with better materials.
If price is not an object, because they are quite more expensive than the 6LDU, go ahead and use them I want to run them in my 04GT3 but I don't know if they ll fit the threads..

What's the recommended service interval to change sparkplugs. My car has only 21k miles and 95% track. What's the cost of the superplugs u mentioned : ). Mike

Dealer price in Europe is a joke like 38eur each especially before 997 gt3 started to use them, now if you google them prices are low! i just did.
I change everything every 10000klm and oils and gear oils every 5000klm
manual says 40000klm or 4 years or if you are running no cats 20000klm (really the RoW manual includes the phrase "cars running no cats" does yours say same?

I changed mine at 18k miles on my 2004 GT3. Glad I did. They were a lot looser than on any car I have ever done but they looked fine.

The dealer referenced the VIN to get the correct part number and gave me:
999-170-195-90
FR6LDU
The plugs that came out were FR6LDC
