Default Stock Exhaust - anyone satisfied?

I’ve been reading all the exhaust threads this weekend.

Is anyone satisfied with the stock system?
Has the sound changed since day one?

I wonder if this thread needs to be separated into NA and European owners.
From my understanding, while both sets of cars have the particulate filters, only the European cars have the substrate in the filters, which in turn results in the noise dampening, while the American (and I'm assuming Canadian) cars do not.

If the above is true, and if that means a sound difference, I would be very curious.

Perhaps it depends on what car you're coming from. My recent fun cars are mustang gt (loud with Roush exhaust) and ND Miata (quiet with stock). My Spyder has what I'd say is a pleasing note above 4000 and after 1000-1500km break-in. However I have an OPF delete link pipes coming so even though it sounds good, it's not quite loud enough for me.

I'm at 4000kms and I feel like it did better over time. I'm ok with it but might consider OPF delete and/or valve control next summer.

I’ll be coming from a 2017 Golf R which does have a valved exhaust, but all the noise in the cabin (for the most part) is made by the soundakotor.

Does the GT4/Spyder have "piped" cabin sound?

100% yes - quiet with the valves closed so as not to wake the dead (neighbours) and throaty enough with the valves open - as the engine sits right behind you there are a lot of noises, belt, chain drives and induction you’d never hear with a front or even a rear engined car - the idiosyncratic closure of the valves in the lower rev range is mildly irritating so a 3rd party controller worth considering. I fancy it has deepened up a bit over the first 3000kk but that may be me revving it more!

To be honest I am really in love with the exhaust sound improvement since I did the exhaust valve mod! My valves are always open now.
If you are unsure you should test it out, its super simple with the "wiring method" and you can check if you want to install any thirdparty exhaust valve controller.
You can easily do it yourself from under the car. ( https://rennlist.com/forums/718-gts-...d-options.html )

It seems like most people not liking the exhaust and engine sound for the 718 gen either have experience or ownership history of the previous 981 gen or other older cars with amazing engines. Current noise regs are tamping down most new cars (see old vs new AMGs too); for what Porsche has to work with I think they did a pretty good job meeting the rules but giving the car a half decent sound. Plus when you're coming from a more 'normal' car, like me with this being my first Porsche, it's more than decent to me!

Canadian market here, so just the “faux” particulate filters. With the exhaust flaps closed (PSE off) it sounds quite similar to my previous 987.1 Boxster. Both sounded fine to me, not the most exciting but still decent.

In PSE on mode (flaps open), the tone isn’t as interesting or high pitched as the 981 with valved exhaust, and the flap control logic sucks (flaps closed between roughly 1800-5000 RPM in first gear, 1800-3700 RPM in higher gears). I like the flaps open sound above 3700 RPM, but it could be better with less muffling (filter delete) and more mixing of the left and right banks to give a higher pitched tone. I’ll probably be getting the Soul OPF delete pipes + Soul’s upcoming silenced valved exhaust + an upcoming version of the DSC sport module that will allow changing the exhaust flap control logic in a manner that integrates nicely with the PSE button.

I just hit 3500 miles on my GT4 and notice a definite improvement in the sound from new. I would say more then half my miles are spent at 5000 and above. I am happy with the sound and do not see spending money chasing the perfect sound (this may change as I only have had the car for 3 months). I do most all my driving on backroads (or on my way to the backroads). I also have a 997 Convertible with the gundal hack and I am coming from a 2018 Cayman GTS and 2018 C63 AMG if that helps gage my recent sound experience. I have several friends that have GT3's with full exhaust systems and while I appreciate the sound it is not something that really interests me.

I think the sound is less of an issue with the Spyder since you have wind noise also. That said, I think the ENGINE sound above 4000rpm is amazing and really drowns out the exhaust. Whatever it is, the end game is that in stock form it really sounds nice above 4000rpm especially when on the throttle. I have 3000 miles on my car and it has definitely improved with time. I may mod the over-axle pipes to get a decent power/torque gain but it isn't a must-do mod, IMO.

I stand to be corrected, but I think there is simply a “pipe” allowing some engine compartment sound to enter the cabin. I don’t think it runs through a speaker, or that it is a device that actively makes noise like the VW system.

Are you referring to this (Model #: 02-0992-06-v3) or there will be an updated version? The drop-down list has 718 GT4/Spyder listed now, but the description doesn't mention PSE or valve/flap control logic.
