I don't have much buying history - 2018 Boxster and CPO 2016 Macan GTS only. But since getting the Boxster I have gotten heavily involved with my local state Porsche chapter. I now own the majority of the lap records/benchmarks in my power to weight category. So I'm a decent level amateur car/track enthusiast, but I'm not in the calibre of people like Jeff above, and multiple others on RL. My dealer does seem to want to deliver these cars to people who will use them 'as intended' and that probably played a significant role, and I am grateful for that

Good luck with getting an SRS Colster!
Thanks for the info and the wishes, looks like I will need it!
This would be my second Porsche after a 22 Macan GTS.

I don't really have much of a relationship with the dealer and they don't seem to have any difficulty with moving stock. They also don't seem to get many "in demand" allocations from Porsche AU. (my SA mentioned that it took two years for a client to get a 911 Turbo S allocation)

I really want a PTS allocation and would be happy to wait, but as you know the window for Australian allocations for the SRS model ends apparently in August, so my chances are slim at best. If I did get a non PTS allocation, I would be somewhat conflicted.

Maybe I should move my current EOI onto a 992.2 GT3. There is no point in hassling the dealer, if an allocation occurs then so be it. No amount of pleading will help. 😏

When I asked about it yesterday I was told that individual dealers get given PTS builds for each model (eg 718 separate from Macan) in a production window (3 month at a time). A couple of people had delayed their PTS Spyder RS builds to later production windows hoping to get a PTS allocation. There was no PTS in Mar - May window so if I delayed my build to the final window in June - August I would have been in competition with them and extremely unlikely.

When I asked how they decide for limited models like this I was told that the GM & Sales Manager decide. I have a good relationship with the GM and made sure he knew this was a very special car that I would be keeping for a long time and would get out and use it. Also put an EOI back in May 2022.
Thanks for the info. I told my SA that it would be a forever car, but I am sure everyone tells them that! Plus I don't think my recent purchase of a Macan GTS would provide any positive sway in the allocation selection process. I think Macans are like camrys for porsche dealerships - mass produced for general consumption. GT cars on the other hand are special and are therfore more carefully placed as far as potential owners are concerned.

Dealers want the cars back on trade… maybe telling them it’s a forever car is the wrong strategy.

You could indeed be right. Maybe I might need to change my strategy going forward. That being said, the Australian car dealers really do bend you over when it comes to trade in time. I'm sure Porsche is no different. But we don't have to deal with ADM in Australia, so I guess the change over price between each country may be the same in the end...

V215 currently. Freeze date is at the end of February. The build starts March 20, 2024, and should be completed by 4/15/2024.

The Australian situation is pretty specific to this law (copied from link above):
"All new vehicles introduced to Australia since March 2023 require a certain type of autonomous emergency braking under Australian Design Rules (ADRs); that requirement will be expanded to all vehicles sold locally from March 2025 regardless of when they were introduced."

So the ICE 718 and ICE Macans can't make that requirement, and can't be sold by the dealer at all from March 2025. The Aug 2024 production halt probably came from taking into account the delivery time to Australia (+ buffers for delays).

It brings some interesting situations in play such as there may be a pause where no Macan or 718 is offered at all in between where the petrol ones sell out, and the first electric ones arrive at our shores. Not so big a deal for the 718, but I think the Macan is the biggest seller (or if not definitely top 2 seller) by volume in Australia.
That's exactly what my sales manager told me and he was also bemoaning the lack of Macan supply between August 2024 and the arrival of the EV in late 2025. He also said that a number of late 718 orders had been cancelled by head office as they can't get them produced by the deadline.

That would explain the 718 GTS production delays for people in North America.

Hello!

That must have been at the 2022 Symmons Plains day when I did some test laps when the Porsche Tour group was there. We tried all sorts of crazy stuff including disconnecting the rear sway bar completely to see how soft we could get the car for the wet!

Spot on, I was in the tour group, a friend of mine had a 997S that I co-drove in the targa, which started the day after. I remember hearing your car (I think you were on just prior to us?) - sounded unbelievable - (was the exhaust stock?)and then seeing it up close, Awesome memories, shame they canned 2024, I hope 2025 goes ahead, might get to stretch these new legs

Woah. This is the earliest car I’ve seen. I thought I had an early car for April 15 at my dealer which is a large dealer in the top 10-15 but not a super large dealer or a mega size dealer. Wondering how your Spyder RS is so early… and I congratulate you… I guess you’re a VIP guy?

Considering the weather in Germany in February I wonder if you’d welcome a delay by a month or two…
