its not ... it has a bad habit of shifting mid-corner - I *never* allow PDK sport or otherwise to shift for me.

Correct. He also teaches at Apex, Lives at the Ring and races VLN. He went sub 8 casually talking to the owner of the car. He wears a lid on 80% of his laps.

I’ve worn helmets during TF. Not sure if this is current, but this says optional:

They don't go without helmets casually - it's a considered risk (while you may disagree with the conclusion - it wasn't done with a careless attitude). However, I would feel more safe in a closed car on the Ring. And they do wear helmets when harnesses and HANS are available.
It's a tough one, personally I feel OK wearing a helmet with the stock 3pt belt on my car without clubsport pack but I would NOT feel OK wearing a helmet in a car with 6pt belts without HANS or not wear a helmet but have the 6pt on. I feel like there is still some benefit to having a helmet on with the 3pt, mainly because the major drawback of a helmet (the added weight and therefore strain on your neck in an impact) is to a significant degree reduced by the elasticity of the stock belts. I think it's debatable what is ultimately safer but I am very clear minded about what is definitely not safe - and you see plenty of those examples at the Ring or other tracks as well.
