INSTALMENT 06 // PPF

View this post on Instagram

The car is now away for a very important stage of the planned upgrades as we draw closer to the reveal on 18th March.

When only the best will do, we called on our friends at Elite Detailer and they couldn't wait to get the car in to work their magic. We've worked with the team on numerous occasions with fantastic results.

The car has spent the week at Elite Detailer where it's had some serious TLC to ensure the paint is up to standard along with full body paint protection film being applied to ensure the car remains looking great throughout the entire 2023 season.

Work began with a full decontamination wash to ensure that not only was the car free of any paint imperfections but also the surface was clinically clean in preparation for the PPF being applied. Ensuring a long lasting bond.

Every single area was meticulously cleaned and prepped.

Once completed the car is dried in preparation for the PPF being applied.

Now the team use their software to plot and pre cut all the PPF panels. Not only does this ensure a perfect fit but it also means no cutting on the car and no risk of any damage.

The pre cut panels can now be applied onto the car.

Not only is the car is being treated to full car PPF coverage but also some additional layers of PPF in the high impact zones as the car will be used predominantly on track.

For those eagle eyed viewers you'll notice that the Carbon Fibre Side Blades are being covered in Stealth PPF to give the satin look. More to come on this one..

Check back next week for the final touches ahead of getting the car out on track, just where it belongs.

There are those that get the idea of PPF and those that don't, I for one think it is worth the effort to protect the paint surface, daily excursions on the road and the track are a lot less stressful with PPF on and protecting the paint... looking good!

INSTALMENT 07 // CARBON AERO, LOGIC PPS

View this post on Instagram

It's been an interesting week here in the UK with major disruptions due to the adverse weather however we've still been making good progress with the JCR 718 GT4 v2.0 project..

Again it's important to stress here that, despite how it looks at the moment, we're not simply creating a replica GT4 RS from our 718 GT4.

Installing factory 718 GT4 RS parts onto our 718 GT4 will allow us to develop a large range cross compatible aero products for the 981 & 718 GT4 along with 718 GT4 RS. Something we're extremely excited about!

Factory 718 GT4 RS Carbon Bonnet, Carbon Front Wheel Arches and Carbon Rear Wing are some of the final elements to be prepared. It's important that we ensure every element of the factory 718 GT4 RS body is replicated accurately to ensure testing results are representative once we're on track.

Front arches painted in factory Arctic Grey and all Carbon Pieces are being applied with Logic 'spray on' Paint Protection in a satin finish which should give quite a striking look.

We also went ahead and created bespoke Carbon Fibre front wheel arch vents for the factory 718 GT4 RS, a product which will come to market soon.

The first parts will also be finished in Satin PPS to compliment all of the other Carbon Fibre elements.

One exciting piece of development that we're working on is our Billet Wing Uprights which will allow direct fitment of the factory 718 GT4 RS rear wing (and JCR Carbon Fibre Rear Wing) to the 718 & 981 GT4.

Very early stages at this point with a 3D printed test part however we're excited to get things moving on one of our first Aero focussed products with plenty more to follow.

We already have our Carbon Fibre Wing End Plates, Gurney and Dive Planes in the design phase and can't wait to share more information in the coming weeks. None more so than our completely bespoke carbon fibre rear wing solution which will be a direct fit for 718 GT4 RS and 981 / 718 GT4 with our billet risers installed.

As the first track day of the season and our planned launch date gets ever closer we are a little concerned if the British weather might delay our plans. However, we will stay positive until that point and hope the sun shows it's face in time for next weekend

Jonny, so the front fenders are OEM units painted to match the GT4 and replacing the ones the car came with? I like the idea of the bespoke Carbon Fibre front wheel arch vents for the factory 718 GT4 RS, a great compliment to any who already have the WP.

Keep the details coming, it is interesting seeing all of the 'behind the scenes footage' of this all comes together!

Yes essentially fully replacing the front fenders with the OEM Carbon Fibre units from the GT4 RS but with the added twist of custom carbon fibre vents to compliment the other exposed carbon on the car

It’s really fun sharing our build and also new development parts in the works

INSTALMENT 08 // FIRST TRACK TEST

View this post on Instagram

Yesterday we took to the track in the 718 GT4 v2.0 for the first time. It felt fantastic to finally be out on the tarmac where this car belongs after eight weeks of intensive updates. We’re super excited to show you the very nearly completed JCR 718 GT4 v2.0 build.

There's a lot of variables involved with a timed launch and sadly due to some delays there's still a few elements of the build which we weren’t able to complete in time for our first track outing. When development and testing are involved it's imperative that all of the steps are followed to ensure that the completed products are perfect and up to our exacting standard.

We’re looking forward to sharing more updates with you soon and hope to reveal the final details at the next track event. Nevertheless, we’re super happy with how the car looks and performed with the majority of the updates implemented perfectly. We have the highest standards here at JCR and rushing isn’t something that we’re prepared to do.

In this final week of building our perfect GT4, the modifications made have been subtle, however, we think you’ll love what we’ve achieved so far..

The car made it’s final trip down to JZM Porsche before we put it through its paces. The reason for this was to install the carbon fibre front wheel arches from the 718 GT4RS onto our 718 GT4. Now, this comes with a few, as previously mentioned, subtle changes. To start with, you can now see that we have the characteristic cutaway behind the front wheel, not only does this give a more aggressive look but it also allows air pressure to bleed from the wheel arch area, helping to reduce drag.

In addition to this cutaway the 718 GT4 RS arch vents above the front wheel too. On the OEM GT4 RS this vent also features two small air guides however we’ve made a little change here and removed the factory vent completely which resulted in a little less front end lift at high speed, further aiding front end downforce on track.

We think this subtle change looks the part, but more importantly it works and resulted direct, albeit small, performance benefit when lapping the car on circuit.

Now, as we’ve said before, we had ambitious deadlines for this car release. For the most part, everything has gone perfectly to plan. However, there is one change that we aren’t going to be able to show you just yet.

As you may have seen in last weeks instalment of our 718 GT4 v2.0 build, we were test fitting a pair of 3D printed wing uprights. This new product will allow 718 GT4 owners to fit the OEM 718 GT4 RS wing to their cars, as well as their also being an option for 718 GT4 RS owners to install our Billet Aluminium uprights giving their standard 718 GT4 RS a more aggressive and efficient rear wing set up.

With this being a new product for JCR as well as being such an integral part of the performance of the car, it had to be perfect. Our 3D parts that we shared in last weeks blog worked great however we just weren’t able to get the billet parts machined in time for the first event hence only running with the stock rear wing at our first track test.

We did intend to complete a back to back test the stock GT4 wing against the GT4 RS wing with the JCR wing uprights installed however we only managed to partially complete that test. The information gathered is still valuable however and learning how effective the 718 GT4 RS front end and underfloor aero components are and how they effect the balance and in which section of the corner was great to understand.

What was reasonably unsurprising is that the factory 718 GT4 rear wing at max angle isn't too far out of range when combined with the 718 GT4 RS front aero (in it's low downforce setting) but we feel the benefit will come with a more efficient rear wing installed meaning that the aero balance can be optimised along with a reduction in drag resulting in higher straight line speed. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the rear wing uprights very soon and we will back to back test on track at our next event to prove this theory.

It’s our first track day of the year, so of course, it rained. We didn't allow this dampen our spirits, though. After reviewing the forecast every day for the week leading up to the day, we made the decision to change tyres.

Having the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tyres installed to the car was the only option for us when creating our perfect, performance orientated 718 GT4. But, with less than optimal and changeable conditions on the horizon we swapped these out for a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.

Having used this tyre on all of our previous JCR cars, it was the only option for a potentially damp track. The tyres performed amazingly from lower temperatures and clear water unbelievably well for a road legal tyre without compromising too much on track performance if the track dries up.

First impressions of the car were extremely good. The aero balance worked nicely. Again, the last thing a 718 GT4 or GT4 RS needs is a TON more rear downforce, if anything the balance needs moving forward and running the factory 718 GT4 rear wing along with the 718 GT4 RS front and underfloor aero again proved this with a platform which is easier to rotate and importantly significantly less understeer mid to exit which will ultimately result in faster lap times.

There's no doubt that with a rear wing producing more downforce in a more efficient way along with optimised front aero will result in even more performance but this is why we test. There's simply no replacement for getting out on track and gathering real world data.

We will further develop the car to ensure the aero balance is friendly, predicable but importantly creates a platform which is conducive to creating faster lap times.

The GT4 is looking very sharp, great to see it out in the rain, always makes for an interesting day at the track when Mother Nature serves to drop the traction down a few notches!

So, I noticed that you may have what looks like the stock hood on this car (unless I missed a reference to it), your previous GT4 had the GT3 RS hod on it, any plans like that here? Or maybe the GT4 RS hood?

I am not suggesting there is anything wrong with it, but shouldn't this thread be called how to convert a GT4 into a GT4 RS?

The cost associated with all of these parts must be astounding . . . and you still do not have an RS.

I follow along with this thread be abuse it is interesting to see what things can be done with a standard GT car, what parts can be added or changed and to get a hint of what is involved, I think of it as a product development thread.

I am sure Jonny would simply buy a RS if that was the point of all of this.

@Westcoast

I think that IS the point . . . anyone who would spend the kind of dime Jonny is ringing up on parts WOULD by an RS, or two . . . IF they could get one.

Again, I embrace an open market and not banging on Jonny for trying to find his niche in the market, or the thread.

Give it a rest, dude. Everyone knows your feelings towards JCR. You don’t need to be pissing in people’s cheerios in every thread.

Are you addressing the right member here . . . I have never pissed on JCR in any thread

If you think my above posts are 'pissing' on JCR, then you need to take some sensitivity training classes . . . for now I will give you the benefit of the doubt in that you are confusing me with someone else
